He would fall to Frank Vana Jr. of Marlborough CC in the semifinals, 3 to 1 to close out a tremendous tournament.

2009 Bryant University Black & Gold Golf Outing
Smithfield, RI- This year's annual Black & Gold Golf Outing will be held July 17, 2009 at the Crystal Lake Golf Club in Burrilville, RI. Last year's successful outing was also held at Crystal Lake.
The Black & Gold Club Golf Outing is held to raise money for the school's Black & Gold Club. The Black & Gold Club is the Athletics department's main fundraising arm, and goes to supporting student-athletes and coaches through scholarships and capital projects.
The format of the event will be Texas Scramble. The cost is $160 per golfer or $600 per foursome.

BERLIN'S GRISWOLD FINDING SUCCESS AT BRYANT
When Plainville's David Soltis officially joins the Bryant University baseball team, he'll be joining another local star in former Berlin High pitcher Matt Griswold.
Griswold went 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 appearances as a sophomore for the Bulldogs last year.
"The easiest thing about coming back as a sophomore is you're more familiar with everything," Griswold said. "Freshman year you don't know what to expect. I feel like it's easier to work harder. I felt a lot more comfortable."

SMITHFIELD, RI Bryant University student-athletes have not only enjoyed tremendous success on the field, but continue to excel in the classroom too. In the spring of 2009, Bryants student-athletes posted a combined 2.97 GPA overall, marking the highest overall GPA in school history. Four programs posted a team-average GPA better than a 3.0.

MCKENNA DRAFTED IN 27TH ROUND BY DETROIT TIGERS
SMITHFIELD, RI Bryant University baseball senior shortstop Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 27th round (810th overall) during Wednesdays Major League Baseball draft. He becomes the first Bryant baseball player drafted since Doug Johnson was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fifth round (142nd overall) in the 2002 draft.

US LACROSSE TABS 2010 U.S. MEN'S NATIONAL TRAINING TEAM
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- US Lacrosse announced Wednesday the 40 players who have qualified for the 2010 U.S. men's national training team following a three-day tryout at Bryant University.
All 40 players, tabbed by a 14-member player selection committee, advance with an opportunity to compete in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship in Manchester, England from July 10-24, 2010. Bryant head coach Mike Pressler will serve as head coach for Team USA.

2009 BASEBALL YEAR IN REVIEW
SMITHFIELD, R.I.- After years of success at the Division II level, the Bryant University baseball team had to rise up to the challenge of Division I competition in 2009, and rise up they did to the tune of 32 wins, with an incredible 30 coming against DI teams. One of the most successful seasons of any Division I reclassifying team, head coach Jamie Pinzino led the squad to a record of 32-22 with a .593 winnings percentage, second behind Florida Gulf Coast for tops among reclassifying teams.

2009 SOFTBALL SEASON REVIEW
SMITHFIELD, R.I. Playing in their first season at the Division I level, the Bryant University softball team finished with a very respectable 11 wins overall, including posting a 5-5 record against future Northeast Conference opponents. The record does not tell the whole story however, as the Bulldogs showed tremendous improvement throughout the season, playing tough against some of the top teams in the Northeast region.

BASEBALL FINISHES SEASON RANKED FIFTH IN NEW ENGLAND IN FINAL NEIBA POLL

The Bulldogs were 32-22 on the year and went 12-7 against New England Division I competition and 14-7 overall against New England teams.

BURLINGTON, VT Pat OConnor went two-for-four with four RBI as the Bryant baseball team exploded for 10 runs on 12 hits to take down Vermont, 10-3, in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Bulldogs also took the night cap, 4-3, to win their fifth-straight game. Bryant improved to 32-21 with the sweep and 12-4 against New England Division I teams.

BRYANT STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN NEC SCHOLAR AWARDS
SOMERSET, NJ Four Bryant University student-athletes have been named to the Northeast Conference Winter Commissioners Honor Roll and 18 additional student-athletes have been named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll announced this week by the conference office.
The Commissioners Honor Roll honors those with a 3.75 or better grade point average. All Scholar-Athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

As a leadoff hitter, he doesnt quite fit the mold typical of a home run hitter.Appearances can be deceiving. So far this season, McKenna, a senior shortstop at Bryant, has 12 home runs double his previous high of six set as a junior.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - A home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off the bat of junior centerfielder Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) would do more than put an eventual 13-3 Bryant victory out of reach for visiting Wheaton College Saturday afternoon on 2009 Senior Day at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
With the shot, his second hit of the game, Campbell rewrote the Bryant baseball record books, becoming the all-time leader in career hits with 249.

SAAC CLEANUP A SUCCESS
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted its first community service event of the year on Sunday, March 22nd. More than 70 student-athletes, led by SAAC co-chairs Steven Branch, Maureen Atkins, Kundayi Mawema and Jessica Clark, woke up early this past weekend to join together for a Campus Cleaning Day. The goal of this event was to clean up all the cans and trash in the senior townhouse area of the campus.

CASSESE AND PRESSLER: A PLAYER-COACH RELATIONSHIP
When Kevin Cassese was at Comsewogue High School in New York, he participated in both football and lacrosse, with his first love being on the gridiron. As time moved along however, Cassese was told that Division I college football was not in his future, and some even thought he would be unable to play any sport at the top collegiate level. That news did not sit well with Cassese, who used the skepticism to fuel his journey to Duke University, where he played under head coach Mike Pressler and developed into one of the countrys top lacrosse players. Now, ten years later, Cassese will have a chance to go head-to-head with Pressler this coming weekend as the Bryant Bulldogs make their way to the Ulrich Sports Complex for a game that will bring Casseses journey into high level lacrosse full-circle.

SMITHFIELD, RI The Bryant University football team will return to the practice field for the first time since last fall this Wednesday afternoon when the Bulldogs begin spring football practice. Wednesdays practice, set to begin at 4 pm, will be the first of 15 total practices this spring leading up to the annual Black & Gold Spring Football Game set for Sunday, April 19 at 1 pm.

After rain and snow got the Bulldogs stuck down in Georgia, the Bulldogs were scheduled to play Hartford in games Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, but were forced to cancel since snow still covers the fields.

FORMER BRYANT ASST. FOOTBALL COACH NAMED DEFENSIVE BACKS COACH FOR THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
The former Bryant asst. football coach, Josh Boyer has been recently named the new defensive backs coach for the New England Patriots. Boyer will be continuing on to his fourth season with the Patriots in the upcoming 2009 season. For the past three seasons (2006-08), he has served as a defensive coaching assistant for the 3-time Super Bowl Champions.

Football Signs 21 Student-Athletes to NLI
SMITHFIELD, RI Bryant University head football coach Marty Fine is pleased to announce the signing of 21 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to enroll and participate in football at the University this fall. The announcement was made today by coach Fine and Director of Athletics Bill Smith.
This is the best recruiting class in the history of our football program, said Fine who enters his sixth season at Bryant this fall. The addition of these fine young men will compliment both the football program and the campus community for the next four years.

After his graduation from Duke, Zack Greer had a tough decision to make. With his extra year of eligibility - granted to him and the rest of the Duke lacrosse squad by the NCAA in the wake of false criminal allegations that ended their 2006 season prematurely - Greer had to choose where to use it. Of course, as the all-time Division 1 leader in goals, he certainly wasn't short on suitors.

SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University soccer program has announced that it will hold two 7 v 7 soccer tournaments this spring. The Tupper Cup will be held on Sunday, March 29th while the Bickford Bowl will be held on Saturday, March 21st. The Bickford Bowl will be open to u12 and u13 girls teams while the Tupper Cup will be an open tournament.

Brooklyn's Smith Taking Advantage of Opportunity (Five Boro Sports)
It seemed like every step of Jerell Smiths football career included a road block.
In high school at St. Francis Prep in Queens, he was stuck behind an established senior his junior year and saw little playing time. His final year there the Terriers were moved up to the CHSFL AAA division and lost every game, falling to league dynamo St. Anthonys twice. The NEC Countdown to Tipoff men's and women's basketball preview show will first air on Fox College Sports (FCS)-Atlantic on Wednesday, November 5th at 8:30 pm.

SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University mens soccer team concluded its inaugural season of Division I play with a, 4-0, loss at Albany Saturday. After 38 years of Division II play, the Bulldogs took the first step in a four-year transition period this season. The squad finished the season with a 1-14-1 record, playing a brutal schedule that included two top-25 opponents (Brown and Providence) as well as trips to Old Dominion, James Madison, Pittsburgh, Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth.

SMITHFIELD, RI- A late goal by Steph Del Mistro against Cornell on Friday afternoon helped the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory, and gave head coach Chris Flint his 100th career win with the Bryant soccer program. The Colby College graduate started with the program back in the 2000 season. Since that time, the womens soccer program has amassed a record of 100 wins, 64 losses, and 18 ties.

BULLDOGS TAKE HOME WIN ON SENIOR DAY, BEAT CORNELL 1-0 AT BULLDOG STADIUM
SMITHFIELD, RI Sophomore defender Steph Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season in the 79th minute of play to lift the Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over visiting Cornell at Bulldog Stadium Friday afternoon. It was the lone home game of the year for Bryant, who improved to 4-9-3 in front of a crowd of 187 on senior day.

BREWSTER, MASS. The Bryant University mens golf team roared back from down 11 strokes after opening round action to win the 72nd annual New England Golf Championship. Alex Daley finished tied for first overall individually and took home second place honors following a playoff.

SMITHFIELD, RI - After three tries and 13 road wins, the Bryant University volleyball team got its first Division I victory in front of its home crowd Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs toppled crosstown rival Providence College in a 3-2 thriller at the Chace Athletic Center.
