SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men’s tennis senior Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and women’s lacrosse redshirt-sophomore Melissa Wamp (Florham Park, N.J.) have been selected as the Navigant Credit Union Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 22.
Lorenz was named the first-ever Northeast Conference Tournament MVP as the Bulldogs captured their fifth-consecutive NEC title Sunday in New Jersey. The Colorado native went 2-0 in both singles and doubles, winning at No. 2 singles in both matches and teaming with freshman Grant Pertile (Edgartown, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles for a pair of victories. With the conference crown, the Bulldogs captured the automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament in May.
Wamp scored eight goals during a 2-0 home weekend that clinched Bryant a spot in the 2018 NEC tournament. The Bulldog attacker scored three goals in Friday’s 15-9 win over Robert Morris and added five goals and an assist in Sunday’s 21-6 victory over Saint Francis U. She finished the weekend with nine points, which led all Bulldogs, and also collected a draw control against the Red Flash. The Morris County, New Jersey native has scored 21 goals in her first full season on the field for the Black and Gold – tied for fourth on the team. Wamp's 13 goals in NEC play rank sixth in the conference
