SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's tennis redshirt junior Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and women's basketball junior Kierra Palmer (Aberdeen, Md.) were each named the Navigant Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances for the week ending Jan. 15.
Fans can view the athletes of the week by clicking on the “Athlete of the Week” tab on the BryantBulldogs.com homepage or any team page.
Kuhar had an explosive beginning to his spring season, topped California's Billy Griffith, who was ranked as high as 49th nationally in the fall. He won a set versus Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo, 17th ranked in the country, but the match went unfinished. In doubles, Kuhar and Art Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) played the Sooners' 43rd-ranked doubles team of Jochen Bertsch and Adrian Oetzbach, taking a 3-2 lead before the match went unfinished.
Palmer helped lead the Bulldogs to a pair of conference victories last week at Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart. The junior averaged 7 points and 5 assists in the two Bulldog victories, while also coming away with a total two steals and three rebounds. She is currently tied for third in the conference with 4.2 assists per game.
