Bryant University Athletic Facility Information
The six lane, 25 yard competition sized pool is one of the
highlights of the Wellness and Athletic Center. With air
temperature remaining a constant 84 degrees and water
temperature a comfortable 82 degrees, the pool is an ideal
environment for aerobic exercise or a refreshing dip. A
state-of-the-art filtration system ensures the water remains
crystal clear. Certified lifeguards are always on duty during pool
hours. Aquatics Director, Amy Laughlin, coordinates a fun, healthy,
and safe pool program.
Learn to Swim Program
Bryant University offers private swimming lessons
conducted by a certified American Red Cross Water Safety
Instructor. All ages and abilities are welcome. Cost is $20 per
30-minute lesson.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Times and dates of class meetings will be announced.
Bryant University is host to several Lifeguard Training classes
conducted by American Red Cross Instructors. Successful completion
of the course leads to American Red Cross certification in
Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer,
and AED Essentials. Cost is $190, which includes books and
resuscitation mask. Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years of age
and able to swim 500 yards continuously. There is a minimum of
eight participants in order for the class to run.
PADI Open Water Diver Course
Times and dates of class meetings will be announced.
Bryant University will host two Scuba certification classed
conducted by East Bay Dive Center. The cost of the course is
$300.Each session will run once a week for five weeks culminating
with a weekend of four open water dives. Participants must supply
mask, snorkel, fins, booties, and weight belt. Prerequisites: Must
be at least 15 years of age. There is a minimum of six participants
in order for the class to run.
Aquatic Aerobics:
Aqua Jogging: Aqua jogging is a deep water exercise
program that incorporates endurance, conditioning and flexibility.
This 45-minute class simulates running on land without the impact,
utilizing an aqua jogging flotation belt. Class size is limited to
8 participants.
Aqua Aerobics: Aqua aerobics is a challenging 45-minute
shallow water cardiovascular workout. Water gives extra resistance
on your muscles and allows for a low impact aerobic workout. All
levels are welcome, no swimming skills required.
Cardio Lap Swim: Cardio Lap swim is a 45-minute
cardiovascular workout that focuses on strengthening and toning the
entire body and incorporates all elements of a lap-swimming
workout. This class also offers instruction on competitive swimming
strokes and turns. The cardio lap swim program is designed for
swimmers of all abilities. All participants must supply bathing
suit, swim cap and goggles.
Pool Rules and Regulations:
1. Do not enter pool unless a lifeguard is on deck.
2. Proper attire must be worn for swimming.
3. Showers must be taken prior to entering pool.
4. No food or drink is allowed in the pool area or locker
rooms.
5. No gum, candy, or any objects in the mouth while swimming.
6. No hanging on lane markers.
7. No glass objects or containers in and around the pool area.
8. No running in the pool area or locker rooms.
9. All doors shall remain closed at all times. All persons shall
enter the pool through locker rooms.
10. No scuba gear shall be used except under instruction. Masks
only are allowed during lap swim.
11. No shoes or street clothes permitted on deck.
12. Only Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices will be
allowed for non-swimmers.
13. All children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an
adult at all times.
