A look at the history of the men's golf program at Bryant University reveals a legacy of success that has spanned five decades. And during his four-year run from 1985-89, Dave French led the Bulldogs through the zenith of the program's accomplishments.
The only player in the 42-year hisotry of the program to have competed in every tournament in his career, French was a four-time All-Northeast-8 Conference selection and captured the conference's individual championship on three occasions. To no one's surprise, the Bulldogs won the conference title in each of French's four years as part of Bryant's nine-peat from 1983-90.
As a junior, French helped Bryant to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division II tournament, and he led the Bulldogs to a second-straight national top-20 finish as a senior, as Bryant placed 13th in 1989. He finished among the top 20 individuals in three NCAA tournaments.
French was a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-America selection and a two-time Academic All-America pick in addition to his conference honors and three All-New Englad selections.
While he contributed on the golf course as a team captain at Bryant, French remainsan active contributor to the Bulldog program. He is an annual participant in the team's fundraising tournaments and is an active supporter of the program. Still a highly skilled player, he was the runner up at the 2000 Connecticut Amateur championship.
Dave French graduated from Bryant in 1989 and currently serves
as chief financial officer for Travelers INsurance in Hartford,
Conn. He is married with four children.
