Chad Walker completed second season at Bryant University in 2009
coaching the Bulldogs' defensive backs. The Bulldogs
racked up 35 pass breakups on the season led by Andre Whyte who had
eight and was named to the Northeast Conference All-Conference team
for 2009. In his two seasons at Bryant, the Bulldog defense
has registered 29 interceptions including 12 this past fall.
Bryant finished the year ranked #4 in the nation in pass defense,
#8 in the nation in pass efficiency defense, and #16 in scoring
defense.
In his first year, Bryant's defense was instrumental in the team's
success at the Division I level (7-4 overall record). The
Bulldogs finished the year ranked nationally in several defensive
categories including interceptions (tied for 17th with 17),
turnovers gained (tied for 12th with 30) and scoring defense (29th
with 20.82 points allowed per game).
Walker came to Bryant in the spring of 2008 with a wealth of
experience in both the National Football League and prominent
Division I-A football programs. He spent three years with the NFL's
Miami Dolphins, starting out as the defensive coaches assistant and
personnel in 2005, Walker was promoted to quality control coach in
2006, a position he held for two years.
Assisting with the Dolphins' linebackers in 2006, Miami finished
fourth in the league in total defense and fifth in pass
defense. In 2007, Miami was fourth overall in the league in
pass defense.
Walker began his coaching career as a student assistant at
Louisiana State University in 2000 and moved to West Virginia in
2001 where he took on a defensive graduate assistant
position. He would return to the state of Louisiana in 2002
as a defensive grad assistant at Louisiana Monroe before rejoining
Nick Saban's staff at LSU in 2003 as a football intern.
At LSU, Walker assisted with the linebackers for 2003 BCS Champion
Tigers' and was responsible for quality control and assisting with
the secondary in 2004.
