(9/6/08) – Junior running back Jerell Smith rushed for a career-high 221 yards on 34 carries to help lead Bryant University to a 39-36 non-conference win over Southern Connecticut before 2,417 at Bulldog Stadium Saturday afternoon. BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite the Bryant University field hockey team getting its first Division I goal, scored by sophomore transfer Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham, Mass.), the Bulldogs fell, 4-1, in a Saturday morning bout against Lehigh University at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
The Mountain Hawks (1-2) earned their first win of the 2008 season behind a pair of goals from freshman Madison Ingal. Lehigh outshot the Bulldogs (1-3), 22-6, in the contest, scoring two goals in each half.
Ingal's first goal came 20 minutes in, when she pushed the ball past Bryant junior goalkeeper Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) from the right side. Five minutes later, the Mountain Hawks scored again, this time on a penalty corner, to extend the lead to 2-0. [more]
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Bryant University volleyball team continued its dominance in its new home in Division I, sweeping its two Saturday games of this weekend's Sacred Heart University Invitational in Fairfield, Conn.
The Bulldogs (4-1) started the day with an early game against the University of Hartford (1-4), winning soundly in three sets. Freshman Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) led Bryant for the fourth-straight game, registering 10 kills, tying sophomore Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.) for the team high.
Senior co-captain Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.) led the team with 14 digs, while the Bulldogs' other senior captain, Maureen Atkins (Fenton, Mo.) registered nine. Rookie Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) recorded a pair of solo blocks, while five other Bulldogs recorded a solo block of their own. Miranda Kolb's (Holt, Mich.) 31 assists led the game. [more]
