Bulldogs Spread Holiday Cheer at Local Hospital
December 23, 2004
Forty Bryant University student-athletes took time from their daily practice and team meetings to offer some holiday spirit at a local hospital in early December. Organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (S.A.A.C.), representatives from Bryant’s football, field hockey, baseball, softball, and men’s soccer teams, joined Tupper the Bulldog as they visited children and their parents at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.
Team members handed out team posters, pom-poms, and plastic footballs, much to the delight of the children who were more than happy to see local athletes taking the time to stop by for a visit.
“Seeing their eyes light up, especially when Tupper walked through the door, was really something special,” said Assistant Athletic Director Coni Fichera. “It really makes you stop and think about what goes on in the lives of some of these children. If we can help bring a smile to their faces, even just for a day, the athletes can come away feeling like they helped make a difference.”
In addition to the visit to Hasbro, Bryant’s student-athletes have collected more than three hundred pounds of food for the Rhode Island Food Bank and recently took part in the “Adopt A Family” program at the Nickerson Family Center.
