LARGE TURNOUT FOR ANNUAL HALL OF FAME DINNER
More than 140 alumni, parents, administrators, coaches and staff showed up at the beautiful Grand Hall in the Bello Center Saturday night as Bryant University welcomed four new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame.
Former volleyball standout Jennifer Carvalho '98, baseball star Jason Eldridge '99, men's golf all-American Scott Trethewey '91, and longtime coach and administrator Bob Reall of Lincoln, R.I. were all honored by their former teammates, coaches and friends during the induction dinner ceremony.
"These individuals join 45 other former student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and contributors who have been honored for their accomplishments," said Director of Athletics Dan Gavitt.
The Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2005 brings the number of new Hall of Fame members to 19 since 2001-02, when the Bryant Athletics Hall of Fame was restarted after a 10-year dormancy. In all, the induction of these four individuals brings the total number in the Hall of Fame to 64.
KAREN HEALY NAMED WOMEN’S LACROSSE COACH
Karen Healy (Freeport, N.Y.), a former standout lacrosse player at Syracuse University, has been named head women's lacrosse coach at Bryant University, replacing Wynne Lobel who resigned in January for personal reasons. Healy comes to Bryant after serving as the Assistant Program Director at MetroLacrosse, Inc., a Boston-based organization that provides free lacrosse for the youth in Boston's historically underserved communities. Healy was a two-time second-team all-American at Syracuse University. She helped lead the Orangewomen to three NCAA Championship appearances and earned Second Team Big East All-Conference honors during her senior year.
After graduating from Syracuse in 2002 with a degree in African American studies, Healy was an assistant coach at UMass-Amherst for two seasons (2003, 2004).
