MEN’S BASKETBALL (6-3, 2-3 NE-10)

Winners of Four Straight, Bulldogs Face Three NE-10 Opponents This Week

Dropping three of its previous four games, the Bryant men’s basketball team has put together a four-game win streak to close out the month of December. In each of the four wins, the Bulldogs have won by an average of 33 points including a 99-68 win over previously undefeated Bloomfield last Thursday in the final game of the Bryant Comfort Suites Holiday Classic. During the run, the Bulldogs have clamped down on the defense, holding opponents to an average of 56 points and under 40.0 percent shooting from the floor in all four victories. The 39 points by NJIT (78-39 on Dec. 29) is the fewest number of points the Bulldogs have allowed since a 73-37 win over Endicott Dec. 10, 1994.

John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) leads the team with 20.0 ppg this season and has made 31 of 60 (51.7 percent) three-point field goal attempts this season. Mike Williams (Ellington, Conn.) is second on the team with 12.2 ppg and 8.2 rebounds per game. The all-time career blocks leader in school history (240), Williams reached the career 1,000 point mark Dec. 20 at Holy Family. Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.) had a strong game against Bloomfield, shooting 73.3 percent from the floor (11 for 15) for a team-high 24 points.

Chris Burns (Merrimack, N.H.) made a return to the lineup during the holiday tournament. Burns, who missed six games due to a facial injury in the season opener vs. AIC on Nov. 28, did not score in 12 minutes vs. NJIT Wednesday, but responded with 13 points and three assists against Bloomfield. The Bulldogs will travel to Assumption Monday night before returning home to host Bentley (12-2, 6-0 NE-10) Thursday at the Chace Athletic Center.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (8-2, 3-2 NE-10)

Team Goes Undefeated at Holiday Tournament; Three Key Conference Games On Tap This Week

The Bryant women’s basketball team opens the new year with a grueling stretch of conference games this week. The Bulldogs take a three-game win streak into Monday’s game at Assumption (5:30 p.m.). The team will host Bentley Thursday before heading to Stonehill Saturday. The Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins over the break, defeating NJIT (70-59) and Lock Haven (74-59) at the Comfort Suites Holiday Classic last week.

Dede Fogarty (Middletown, Conn.) leads the team with 14.3 ppg this season while senior forward Lindsay Hermann (Bristol, Conn.) is second with 11.9 ppg and 7.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Joanna Skiba (Providence, R.I.) had a career-high 10 assists to go with nine points in the team’s 74-59 win over Lock Haven last Thursday. Skiba has 52 assists this season to go with her 11.6 points per game average.
