INDOOR TRACK
Records Fall at Northeastern's Winter Carnival

The Bryant men’s and women’s indoor track teams kicked off the 2005-06 season competing at the New Balance Winter Carnival at Northeastern’s Reggie Lewis Center Saturday.  The Bulldogs set three new school records and equaled another in the non-scoring meet.  Junior Joe Brennan (Cranston, RI) shattered Pat Rafferty’s five year old record in the 400 meters with a ninth-place finish in 51.11 seconds.  The previous school best was 51.70 set by Rafferty in 2000.  Jerry Laguerre (Punta Gordo, Fla.) tied the school record in the high jump, clearing six feet, two inches.   One of the highlights of the day for the Bulldogs came in the sprints where Hafiz Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) turned in a pair of dazzling performances in just the first meet of the season.  Greigre turned in the top time in the prelims of the 55 meter dash in 6.56 seconds and placed second in the finals in a time of 6.48 seconds, just shy of his school record of 6.47 seconds set last year.  Obaro Emenike of Northeastern edged Greigre in the finals Saturday with a time of 6.46 seconds.  Greigre would conclude the day with a first-place finish in the 200 meters in 22.24 seconds, well ahead of second-place finisher James Myles of New Hampshire (22.47). On the women’s side, two records fell as sophomore Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, Mass.) set a new record with a third-place finish in the women’s 200 meter dash in 26.26 seconds while Jennifer Goodwin (Yarmouthport, Mass.) set a new record in the 1,000 meters with a  13th-place finish in 3:14.90.
