VOLLEYBALL (27-10, 13-1 NE-10)
Team Falls To Bentley In Regional Final;Career Comes To A Close For One of Bryant¹s All-Time Greats
   The Bryant women’s volleyball team fell to Bentley College, 3-2 in the semifinals of the 2005 NCAA Northeast Regional Friday night at Bryant University’s Chace Athletic Center. Making their seventh--straight appearance in the NCAA tournament (ninth overall), the Bulldogs defeated NYIT, 3-0 in the first round but could not get past the Falcons in the semifinals, despite 22 kills and 22 digs from senior Michelle Muniz (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico).
   Muniz concludes her career ranked first all-time in school history with 2,320 career kills, 4.67 kills per game average, 5,437 attack attempts, second with 315 career service aces and second with 1,982 career digs.  She joined junior Jessica Cegarra (Danville, NH) on the region all-tournament team.  Dowling, the top seed of the tournament, won the regional title with a 3-2 win over Bentley in the final on Saturday, advancing to the Elite Eight in Kearney, Neb.


MEN’S BASKETBALL (3-0, 0-0 NE-10)
Burns and Williams Lead Bulldogs to 3-0 Start to Season
     The Bryant men¹s basketball team picked up three wins to open the season last week, the first 3-0 start for the Bulldogs since the 1996-97 season.  Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs opened with an impressive 70-62 win over regional power Adelphi at home, and followed with a pair of wins at the University of Bridgeport tournament over the weekend.  Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) scored a career-high 29 points in a 78-76 win over host Bridgeport Saturday, while senior guard John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs with 22 points - including 6 of 9 shooting from three-point range.  Bryant would close out the tournament with an 88-81 win over NYIT Sunday as Williams netted a game-high 21 points and handed out five assists.  Both were named to the tourney¹s all-tournament team.
  The win on Sunday was the 75th for fifth-year coach Max Good (75-52) at Bryant. Freshman Nick Pontes (New Bedford, Mass.) averaged 9.3 points in his first three games in a Bulldog uniform.  The 6-6 forward had 10 points and eight rebounds in the win over Adelphi and netted 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting Sunday vs. NYIT.  The Bulldogs travel to AIC on Tuesday night and Saint Rose Sunday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (1-0, 0-0 NE-10)
Team Picks Up Big Road Win at QueensLast Tuesday; AIC and Saint Rose Up Next
The Bryant women’s basketball team kicked off the 2005-06 season with a hard-fought 67-66 win on the road at Queens College last Tuesday.  Trailing by nine at the half, the Bulldogs would use a 7-0 run late in the game to pull out the victory.  Lauren Rubenoff’s (New Hartford, Conn.) basket with 1:35 left gave the Bulldogs the lead for good. Freshman Alyssa Michella (Washington, NJ) led the way with 15 points while Megan Peper (Castleton, NY) had 12.  Junior guard Joanna Skiba (Providence, RI / Classical) had 10 assists.  The Bulldogs travel to American International Tuesday night and Saint Rose on Sunday.

MEN’S & WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Bulldogs Compete at BentleyCollegeInvitational
   The Bryant men’s and women’s swim teams took part in the Bentley College Invitational over the weekend with the men finishing seventh and the women taking home ninth place at the meet in Waltham, Mass.  Kim Noto (Southington, Conn.) took ninth in the women¹s 50 yard freestyle in a time of 27.19 seconds, while Ray Savner (Bethlehem, Conn.) placed fifth in the 50 free in 23.39.  Savner was also ninth in the 100 yard free in 52.79 seconds. Kristen Brekne (Stony Brook, NY) was 12th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:54.52 while Nate Olszewski (Blandford, Mass.) was 15th in the event in 2:41.12. The Bulldogs have this weekend to off to prepare for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championships Dec. 9 at Southern Connecticut State University.

DOWN THE STRETCH ...

BRYANT FOOTBALL PLACES NINE PLAYERS ON NORTHEAST-10 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM; PERRY HONORED WITH ALL-NEW ENGLANDAWARD
  The Bryant University football team placed seven student-athletes on the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference Football team, the most in school history.  Junior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) was named first-team all-conference with a school record 1,335 yards rushing and record 17 touchdowns.  Sophomore defensive lineman Jay Stahl (Methuen, Mass.) was named first team defense with 40 tackles and 4.5 sacks.   Earning second team all-conference were senior fullback Drew Shaw (Gladwyne, Pa.), sophomore guard Ralph Squitieri (Orangeburg, NY), senior center Saddi Williams (Washington, D.C.), senior linebacker Greg Daniel (Providence, RI), and junior punter Mike Lajterman (Ramsey, NJ).  Daniel led the Bulldogs with a record 84 tackles in 2005.

   In addition, Perry was named to the 2005 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team last week and will be honored at the New England Football banquet Dec. 8 in Randolph, Mass.
