Bryant Weekly Sports Update - Women's Soccer Places Four On All-Conference Team; Football Ends Season With Record Seven Wins

CROSS COUNTRY
Teams End Season at NCAA Regionals in Boston on Sunday
The Bryant University men’s and women¹s cross country  teams competed in the NCAA Regionals Sunday in Boston, with the men finishing ninth out of 20 teams competing, and the women finishing 17th.  Caleb Paul (Addison, Maine) was 38th in a time of 34 minutes, 11 seconds while Steve Carr (Wolcott, Conn.) was 42nd in 34:19.  Senior Jared Nelson (Cranston, RI / Hendricken) was 49th in 34:30.  The Bryant women were led by Nicole Radzik¹s (Sutton, Mass.) 21st place finish in 24:32.

FOOTBALL (7-3, 6-3 NE-10)
Bulldogs End Season With Loss to Southern Connecticut
The Bryant University football team ended its best season in school history with a 77-35 loss at Southern Connecticut on Saturday in New Haven. Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) had 169 yards rushing in the game, setting a new school record for yards rushing in a season with 1,335 yards.  His three touchdowns Saturday gave the junior 16 for the season, also a record. In all, Bryant set 23 team records during the 2005 season, including 29 rushing touchdowns, 1,993 yards passing, 3,974 yards of total offense, 312 points and 46 total touchdowns.  Greg Daniel (Providence, RI) set a school record with 84 total tackles and 40 assisted tackles while sophomore quarterback Charles Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) passed for a record 1,736 yards.  The Bulldogs will return 15 starters for the 2006 season.  Both CW Post and Southern Connecticut will represent the Northeast-10 Conference at the NCAA Division II Championships starting this Saturday.

MEN’S SOCCER (8-6-4, 6-4-5 NE-10)
Team Ends Season With 2-1 Overtime Loss to Le Moyne
After winning the program¹s first Northeast-10 Conference tournament game since 1988 last Sunday at Merrimack in overtime, the 2005 season came to a close on Wednesday with a 2-1 overtime loss to eventual conference champ Le Moyne in the conference semifinals. Trailing 1-0 at the half, Bryant senior Michael Anania (Warren, RI) knotted the game up at 1-1 with a header just 12 minutes into the second half.  The Bulldogs would eventually fall in the extra period, marking the ninth time this season Bryant played an overtime
match.  

WOMEN’S SOCCER (13-6-2, 9-4-1 NE-10)
Four Named All-Conference; Gidius Earns Academic Honor
Four Bryant University women’s soccer players were named all-conference by the Northeast-10 this past weekend.  Senior Hannah Sandrowski (Trumbull, Conn.) was named first team all-conference as well as Defensive Player of the Year in the league.  Senior Terri Gidius (Coventry, Conn.) and junior Casey Grange (Methuen, Mass.) were named second team all-conference while sophomore Tricia Spada (Dedham, Mass.) was named third team all-conference. In addition, Gidius was named academic all-conference by the Northeast-10
last week.    
   
VOLLEYBALL (23-9, 13-1 NE-10)
Bulldogs Open NE-10 Conference Tourney as No. 2 Seed
The Bryant women’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Assumption College last Tuesday night in Worcester to end the regular with a 23-9 record and 13-1 mark in the conference. The Bulldogs will be the No. 2 seed at the Northeast-10 Conference tournament hosted by Pace University in Pleasantville, NY.  Bryant will open the tourney Friday against Le Moyne, the No. 7 seed.  The championship will take place Saturday.  Bryant, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Northeast Region, behind No. 1 Dowling and No. 2 Bentley, have won two-straight conference championships.

Bulldogs Fall to UConn, 109-62 Thursday Night;
Travel to UNLV Friday Night To Tune Up For Season Opener Nov.

The Bryant University men’s basketball team fell to UConn, 109-62 in the team’s first exhibition game last Thursday at the Hartford Civic Center. Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) had 15 points and three assists to lead the Bulldogs while John Fogarty (Smithfield, RI) chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.  Senior guard John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) had 10 points. The Bulldogs travel to UNLV this Friday night.  The game will be broadcast live online at www.BryantBulldogs.com starting at 10:30 pm ET. Bryant was picked to finish sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference this season in the preseason coaches’ poll released last Thursday.

Bulldogs To Scrimmage Franklin Pierce Saturday;
Team Picked Eighth in the Northeast-10

Preseason Poll The Bryant women¹s basketball team will host Franklin Pierce this Saturday for an exhibition game before opening the 2005-06 season on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Queens College.  The Bulldogs were picked to finish eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches’ poll released last week.

MEN’S & WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Bulldogs Compete at Clark and Colby Sawyer
The Bryant men’s and women’s swim teams competed this weekend at meets at Clark University and Colby Sawyer. Kim Noto (Southington, Conn.) placed first in the women’s 50 yard freestyle at the Clark meet in a time of 26.88 seconds, and later took second in the 100 yard free in 59.24.  Ray Savener (Bethlehem, Conn.) took first in the men’s 50 yard freestyle in 23.16 and was also first in the 100 (51.74).  Jamie MacDougall (Waltham, Mass.) earned a first in the 200 yard medley in 2:56.35.   The Bulldogs travel to UMass Dartmouth this Saturday.

MEN’S ASSISTANT COACH BRIAN KEEFE LEAVES FOR NBA POSITION WITH THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS Fifth-year assistant men’s basketball coach Brian Keefe (Winchester, Mass.) has left Bryant University to take a position with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs coaching staff.  He has been replaced by Rhode Island College Assistant Coach Dwayne Pina.  Pina is a 2001 graduate of Boston College.
