Bulldogs Impressive In Opener, Defeating AIC 21-0 Saturday
Team Heads To Merrimack Saturday
Everything went right for the Bulldogs in the 2005 season opener.
Bryant rolled up 337 yards of total offense, scored three rushing
touchdowns, and held AIC to only 82 yards rushing in a 21-0 win
over the Yellow Jackets before 4,310 at Bulldog Stadium. The win is
the first for Bryant against AIC in six tries and marks the first
shutout victory since a 26-0 win over Pace in 2002. Charles
Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) completed 11 of 24 passes for 172
yards while Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) rushed for 87 yards and
a score in his Bryant debut after transferring from UMass this past
spring. The Bulldogs hit the road Saturday for a conference game at
Merrimack (1-0).

Bulldogs Split Northeast-10 Conference Action This
Week;
Team Hosts Southern Connecticut Tuesday
The Bryant University field hockey team opened the 2005
Northeast-10 Conference slate with a 3-1 loss to UMass Lowell on
Wednesday, but rebounded nicely with a 4-1 win at American
International Saturday. Lanie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) had a pair
of goals in the contest against the Yellow Jackets while Caroline
Carr (Wrentham, Mass.) and Maureen Burns (Derry, N.H.) each added a
goal. Bryant will host Southern Connecticut this afternoon
(Tuesday) and travel to Franklin Pierce on Saturday.

Gravel's Goal in Final Minutes Lifts Bulldogs To Win In Conference
Opener at Saint Michael's
Junior midfielder Bryan Gravel (Londonderry, NH) scored on
a penalty kick with under 10 minutes remaining, breaking a
scoreless contest and lifting the Bryant men¹s soccer team to
a 1-0 win over Saint Michael's College Saturday. Gravel was taken
down inside the goal box by Purple Knight goalie Tim Williamson in
the 81st minute, awarding Gravel and the Bulldogs the automatic
penalty kick. Thomas Madden (Saco, Maine) had three saves in goal
to earn the shutout victory. The Bulldogs will travel to Bentley on
Wednesday before returning home to host Southern New Hampshire on
Saturday (12 pm).
WOMEN¹S SOCCER (3-1-1, 0-0 NE-10)
Bulldogs Return Home From Florida Trip Following
5-3 Win Over Nova Southeastern Sunday; Team Hosts Franklin Pierce
Saturday
The Bryant women's soccer team posted a 1-1-1 record on
the week to improve to 3-1-1 on the season. The Bulldogs opened the
week with a 1-1 overtime tie with second-ranked Adelphi last
Tuesday. Trailing 1-0 to the Panthers early, the Bulldogs would
even the score thanks to an unassisted goal from freshman Amy
Orzechowski (Milford, Conn.). The Bulldogs out-shot the visitors
22-8 in the game.
On Friday, Bryant dropped a 3-0 decision to Lynn University but
rebounded with a strong effort on Sunday with a 5-3 win over Nova
Southeastern. Tied 2-2 at the half, Tricia Spada (Dedham, Mass.)
put the Bulldogs up with a goal to make it 3-2 and Lindsey Meszaros
(Leominster, Mass.) would score minutes later to make it 4-2.
Bryant will travel to Stonehill on Wednesday before hosting
fifth-ranked Franklin Pierce on Saturday (3 pm)
CROSS COUNTRY
Season Opens Saturday For the Bryant Men's and Women's Cross
Country Teams
The Bryant University men¹s and women¹s cross
country teams will open the 2005 season this Saturday at the
Connecticut College Invitational in New London, Conn. The Bryant
men¹s cross country team was picked to finish fifth in the
2005 Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll with UMass Lowell
tabbed as the favorite by just two points over Stonehill. Seniors
Jared Nelson (Cranston, RI), Caleb Paul (Addison, Maine) and Steve
Barone (Trumbull,
Conn.) look to lead the way in 2005. The women¹s team, picked sixth in the NE-10 preseason poll, are led by juniors Kristin Braga (Taunton, Mass.), Kara Tranquillo (Stratford, Conn.) and Edie Muller (Andover, Mass.).
VOLLEYBALL (0-4, 0-0 NE-10)
Bulldogs Open Season at Florida Southern Tournament; Team Returns
Home To Host Three Home Matches This Weekend
The Bryant volleyball team opened the year with four losses at the
Florida Southern Tournament, with two coming against Top-20 teams.
All-American Michelle Muñiz (Guaynabo, P.R.) had 53 kills
and 73 digs in three matches while sophomore setter Tiffany Garry
(Frankfort, IL) had 61 assists in a 3-2 loss to Rollins College.
The 61 assists were just three shy of a personal best for Garry.
Bryant opened the 2002 season with four losses at a competitive
preseason tournament, but bounced back to reach the Northeast-10
Conference tournament semifinals and the finals of the NCAA
Northeast Regional Championship later that year. The Bulldogs
travel to AIC on Wednesday before returning home to host Wilmington
College Friday (8 pm) and Mercy (11 am) and Saint Anselm (1 pm)
Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.
DOWN THE STRETCH ...
BRYANT'S STUDENT-ATHLETES RAISE MORE THAN $1,200 FOR
HURRICANE VICTIMS
Bryant's student-athletes raised more than $1,200 during a
fundraising drive at Saturday¹s football game at Bulldog
Stadium to help support the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All
proceeds will go to the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red
Cross to help relief efforts.
HOMECOMING & REUNION WEEKEND FAST
APPROACHING
The 2005 Homecoming & Reunion Weekend is fast approaching.
There¹ll be plenty of action during the weekend starting on
Friday with men¹s soccer hosting Franklin Pierce at 3:30 p.m.,
volleyball hosting Stonehill (4 p.m.) and Bridgeport (6 p.m.) while
women¹s soccer will host Saint Michael¹s on Saturday
morning at 10 a.m. Football will host Pace on Saturday starting at
1 p.m. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the running of the
fifth-annual Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race/Walk on the Bryant
campus. The race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
