BULLDOG UPDATE

After a tough 77-67 defeat to Merrimack in the regular-season finale Tuesday night, the Bryant men’s basketball team (19-8) open the 2006 postseason hosting American International College (13-14) Saturday for a Northeast-10 Conference first round game.  Tip-off at the Chace Athletic Center is at 2 pm.  The Bulldogs are the No. 6 seed of the conference tournament, the same position they were in last year when they advanced to the NE-10 quarterfinals … The Yellow Jackets enter the tourney as the No. 11 seed.  This will be the third meeting of the year between Bryant and AIC with each team winning at home.  AIC defeated Bryant, 67-65 in Springfield back on Nov. 22 and Bryant won, 78-65 in Smithfield on Jan. 16.  The two schools last met in the playoff back in 2003-04 with Bryant winning the first round matchup, 76-64 … The winner of Saturday’s game will travel to third-seeded UMass Lowell on Monday night in Lowell, Mass.  The conference semifinals will take place on Thursday with the championship scheduled for Saturday.

SCOUTING AIC
The Yellow Jackets come into Saturday’s game riding a two-game losing skid, falling to Stonehill and Bentley (both at home) in the final week of conference play. AIC, 4-9 on the road this season, is led by high scorer John Huggins who brings a 21.2 ppg scoring average into the game.  Huggins, a 6-2 senior from Philadelphia, has made 81 three’s this season.
