WEEKLY UPDATE
MEN’S BASKETBALL (10-5, 5-5 NE-10)
BULLDOGS DEFEAT ASSUMPTION BEHIND WILLIAMS’ 23 AND
HAMMOND’S 22 POINTS
The Bryant men’s basketball team snapped a
two-game skid with an impressive 94-70 win at Assumption on
Saturday. After a 73-57 loss at Merrimack, the Bulldogs
erupted with an aerial attack that included 14 three-point field
goals and 52 first-half points. John Williams (Springfield,
Mass.) led all scorers with 23 points and five three’s while
Dan Hammond (Brunswick, Maine) notched a career-high 22 points as
the pair combined for 10 of the team¹s 14 three’s.
In his first career start, Jarrenn Wright (Cincinnati, OH) came
through with his first career double-double as the freshman tallied
12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of action. He
was 6-for-10 shooting from the floor. Bryant shot 53.1
percent from the floor in the game and grabbed a season-high 43
rebounds. With his 23 points, Williams moved into 10th
all-time on Bryant¹s career scoring list with 1,404 career
points, passing Jason Noel’s mark of 1,399. Williams
needs just two points to pass Jason Bennett for ninth
all-time. This will be the second meeting of the year between
the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets as AIC picked up a 67-65 win in
Springfield, MA back on Nov. 22.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (7-8, 2-8 NE-10)
PERRY’S SEVENTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE NOT ENOUGH AS BULLDOGS FALL TO
ASSUMPTION SATURDAY
The Bryant women’s basketball team
will look to rebound from Saturday¹s 60-57 loss at Assumption
as the Bulldogs host 13th-ranked American International Monday
evening. Shannon Perry (Providence, RI) recorded her seventh
double-double of the season with a season-best 27 points and 12
rebounds but the Bulldogs struggled offensively from the field,
shooting just 29.2 percent from the floor including 2 of 20 from
three-point range. Erin Murphy (Albany, NY) had 12 points, all
coming in the second half, while sophomore Lynne-Ann Kokoski
(Hatfield, Mass.) chipped in with eight points. Lauren Rubenoff
(New Hartford, Conn.) grabbed nine rebounds. Perry brings a
19.7 ppg scoring average into Monday¹s game and is averaging a
team-best 13.3 rebounds per game since joining the Bulldogs during
the Holiday Tournament in late December. Joanna Skiba
(Providence, RI) is second on the team in scoring with 15.4 ppg and
has a team-best 33 three-point field goals. Rubenoff is
second with 8.4 ppg and and averages just under seven rebounds a
game. Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs knocked off Merrimack
College, 64-59 as Bryant outscored the Warriors 12-0 to close out
the game. Perry tallied 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in
the win.
