MEN’S BASKETBALL (20-8, 14-8 NE-10)
BULLDOGS VISIT UMASS
LOWELLMONDAY FOR NE-10 QUARTERFINAL; BRYANT RANKED #2 REGIONALLY
After a tough loss to Merrimack at home in the regular-season finale, the Bryant men’s basketball team rebounded with a 61-54 win over AIC in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals Saturday at home. Chris Burns (
Merrimack, NH) paced the Bulldogs with 24 points and tied a career-best with 6 three-point field goals. John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) had 11 points while freshman Jarrenn Wright (Cincinnati, OH) had 9 rebounds.  The Bulldogs travel to UMass Lowell on Monday night for a quarterfinal round game (7 pm).  The winner will advance to the conference semifinals on Thursday with the championship set for Saturday, Mar. 4 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The Bulldogs won the only regular-season meeting with the River Hawks, 82-66 in Smithfield back on Feb. 1.  Williams had 31 in the game.  Bryant’s last trip to Costello Gym was a year ago when the Bulldogs pulled out a 57-52 win in a regular-season matchup. In the previous year, Lowell knocked out the Bulldogs in the NE-10 semifinals and later in the NCAA Regional Championship.  Williams brings a 20.4 ppg scoring average into Monday’s game and has 105 three-point field goals.  The senior is closing in on his single-season 3-point record of 119 set last year.  The NCAA will announce its Division II Championship bracket Sunday night, Mar. 5 around 10 pm.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (9-18, 6-16 NE-10)
SENIOR NIGHT A SUCCESS AS BULLDOGS END SEASON WITH
WINOVERMERRIMACKCOLLEGE
The Bryant women’s basketball team concluded the 2005-06 season with an emotional win over Merrimack College, 70-55 last Tuesday night.  Shannon Perry (
Providence, RI) scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win, but the story of the night was the individual scoring the first two points for the Bulldogs.  Senior Pamela Malcolm (Colchester, Conn.), injured seriously in a car accident prior to arriving at Bryant as a freshman in 2002, was honored with a special pregame ceremony.  After the opening tip and ensuing Merrimack basket, senior teammate Lauren Glenney (Lisbon, Conn.) dished off to a waiting Malcolm underneath the Bulldog basket with 19:38 left in the first half who banked in a shot for the first - and only - points of her career.  An archived video of the shot is located at www.bryantbulldogs.com. This season, Bryant set a school record with 138 made three-point field goals.

INDOOR TRACK
STEVENSON SETS RECORD; BRYANT MEN PLACE 14TH AT NEW
ENGLANDCHAMPIONSHIPS
Bryant sophomore speedster Hafiz Greigre (
Attleboro, Mass.) earned two All-New England honors with impressive performances at the New England Championships at Boston University over the weekend. Greigre set a school record in placing second in the men's 55 meter dash in 6.38 seconds. The mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  Greigre would also take third place in the finals of the men's 200 meters in 21.57 seconds - also a school record. Junior Natasha Stevenson (Haverhill, Mass.) blazed to a pair of school records at the New England Championships, finishing 19th in the women's 55 meter dash in a school record time of 7.45 seconds and placing 9th in the finals of the women's 200 meters in 25.37. She set a new school record in the 200m prelims in 25.27.

BASEBALL (2-9, 0-0 NE-10)
BULLDOGS GET INTO WIN COLUMN WITH DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP AT
WEST CHESTERSATURDAY
The Bryant baseball team earned its first wins of the young season, sweeping a doubleheader at
West Chester University in Pennsylvania on Saturday, 5-3 and 8-7.  Sophomore Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT) tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the opener. He also finished with seven strikeouts. The hit parade was led by senior Paul Novakowski (Prospect, CT) who was 1-for-3 including a home run and two runs scored. Senior Daryle Crowley (Danvers, MA) added two hits and RBI in the win.  In the night-cap, senior Adam Rourke (Rowley, MA) went 2-for-3 at the plate including a home run, three runs scored, RBI, and stolen base. Crowley had a home run and pair of RBIs.

DOWN THE STRETCH …

FIELD HOCKEY SIGNS THREE STANDOUTS
Bryant University field hockey coach Coni Fichera has announced the signing of four student-athletes.  The new recruits:  Caitlin Johnson (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole HS), Ashley Rebello (Oak Bluffs, Mass. / Martha’s Vineyard HS), Stephanie Harrison (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford HS), and Colleen Wilson (Windham, NH / Salem HS) will enroll and participate in intercollegiate field hockey at the university this fall.  Johnson led Walpole HS to the Bay State League title and state championship in 2004.  Rebello was a Cape Ann All-Star selection and lettered in track.  Wilson, also a track standout, was nominated to the “Best of 60” all-star team.  Wilson led Salem to three state titles and was a Gold Medalist at the US Field Hockey National Festival. All four recruits are honor students.

TENNIS TEAMS OPEN FRIDAY
The Bryant men’s and women’s tennis teams will open the 2006 spring season this Friday when the Bulldogs take on Pace University at the East Hartford Tennis Club in Hartford, Conn.  The men are scheduled to host
Rhode Island College Mar. 9 while the women will head to Puerto Rico for three matches, Mar. 13-15.
