CROSS COUNTRY
The Bryant University Cross Country teams visited for Stonehill College on Saturday for the last training run before opening up the 2006 fall season this Saturday at the Connecticut College Invitational in New London, CT.  The Bulldogs, under the direction of first-year coach Trish Hillery (Greenville, RI) will be led by junior Andrew Holmes (Holden, Mass.) and senior Jennifer Goodwin (Yarmouthport, Mass.). 
 
FIELD HOCKEY
The Bulldog field hockey team opened its season with a 4-0  non-conference loss to Bloomsburg.  Freshman goalkeeper Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) made 20 saves in the loss to Bloomsburg. On Sunday, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-0 decision to Mansfield to fall to 0-2.  Bryant will host defending national champion UMass Lowell on Wednesday night at 7 pm.
 
FOOTBALL
The Bulldogs opened the 2006 season on the right foot with a 49-20 win over Southern Connecticut at Bulldog Stadium last Saturday.  Senior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) rushed for 190 yards and a school-record four touchdowns.  Junior safety Chris Wohlheter (Newark, OH) had eight tackles and returned an interception a school-record 75 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.  The Bulldogs visit American International College Saturday for a 1 pm game.

MEN'S SOCCER
The Bulldogs posted a 4-1 win at Assumption Wednesday night and battled Saint Michael's to a scoreless tie Saturday evening at home to remain undefeated this season at 2-0-1.  Michael Garguilo (North Branford, CT) had two goals in the win over Assumption while senior Bryan Gravel (Londonderry, NH) added a single tally. 

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Bryant women's soccer team is off to a strong start to the 2006 season, thanks in part to the play of senior captain Casey Grange (Methuen, Mass.).  Grange has seven goals in the Bryant's first four games this season including a goal and pair of assists in a 4-1 win over AIC last Friday.  The Bulldogs opened the season with four-straight wins before falling to Adelphi 1-0 this past Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL
After a long trip to San Diego to open the season a week ago, the Bulldogs returned to action at the C.W. Post tournament on Long Island last week, going 2-2 in four matches.  On Friday, the Bulldogs defeated NYIT 3-0 and Queens 3-0 before falling to CW Post 3-2 and Nova Southeastern 3-2 Saturday.  Jessica Cegarra (Danville, NH) had 55 kills and 10 blocks while setter Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, IL) was named to the all-tourney team with 21 kills and 12 aces.  Freshman Morgan Wood (Cedar Park, TX) posted a 31 kills and 21 blocks for the Bulldogs. Bryant will host AIC Wednesday and the Bryant Invitational next weekend.

BRYANT SEEKING HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS
    The Bryant University Department of Athletics & Recreation is now accepting nominations for its Athletics Hall of Fame.  Nominations can be made online at www.bryantbulldogs.com or by contacting Jason Sullivan, Asst. Athletic Director at (401) 232-6072.  The Class of 2007 will be announced during Homecoming and Reunion Weekend with the annual Hall of Fame Induction Dinner to take place in January.   

BRYANT NAMES RIA CARROLL ASSISTANT SOCCER COACH
     Bryant University women's soccer coach Chris Flint announced last week the naming of Rhode Island native Ria Carroll as women's soccer assistant coach.
     A native of Warwick, R.I., Carroll played two seasons at the University of Rhode Island where she was the Rams' starting goalkeeper in 18 of 19 matches in 2005, posting a 10-5-2 record along with a 1.65 goals-against-average. As a junior in 2004, Carroll started 19 of 21 matches, earning all Atlantic-10 honors in leading the Rams to the conference finals, while earning all-tournament honors.
     Born in Luton, England, Carroll is a 2002 graduate of Toll Gate High School in Warwick, R.I. where she was a three-sport standout in soccer, basketball, and track & field. She has recently been involved with the Rhode Island Rays Soccer Club. She will begin her duties immediately.

TRISH HILLERY NAMED CROSS COUNTRY TRACK COACH
     Bryant announced last week the hiring of Greenville, RI resident and former Providence College Cross Country and Track standout Trish Hillery as its new Cross Country / Track & Field Coach.  A 1989 graduate of Providence College, Hillery was a four-year standout member of the Friars' cross country and track & field teams for coach Ray Treacy.  During her career, Hillery placed in the top 10 in all four BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships and captained the Friars' cross country team to the 1989 conference championship. 
     A native of Limerick, Ireland, Hillery was the Irish High School Cross Country Champion from 1982 to 1985 and currently holds the Irish High School 3,000 meter record of nine minutes, 51.0 seconds.  

VIDEO BROADCAST OF FOOTBALL GAMES AVAILABLE
     The Northeast-10 Conference announced Friday a new partnership with Penn Atlantic to provide live video broadcasts of various athletic events this season, beginning with 2006 football season.  Fans can catch all of the live action through www.ne10.tv  or www.bryantbulldogs.com.  All 10 Bryant football games will be broadcast this season with plans to broadcast conference men's and women's basketball games.

HOMECOMING AND REUNION WEEKEND JUST AHEAD
     Bryant University will hold Homecoming & Reunion 2006 will take place September 15-17 highlighted by Bryant's football game against Merrimack College at Bulldog Stadium.
     On Sunday, the 6th Annual Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Cross Country Race/Walk takes place at 1 p.m. This event is held each year in memory of the 1998 Bryant graduate and former cross country team captain who died on United Airlines Flight 175. Proceeds from the race will be added to a scholarship fund established in Nassaney's memory by his family, friends, and classmates.
