Bryant Sports News Update

ANOTHER OUTSTANDING WEEK FOR THE BULLDOGS
Only one week after a stellar start to the fall seasons, Bryant again enjoyed another successful week of triumphs on the fields and the courts.  Football rallied for a thrilling overtime win at Merrimack, volleyball got back to .500 with five wins on the week, and field hockey, ranked 10th nationally last week, knocked off second-ranked Stonehill at home Saturday night.

CROSS COUNTRY
Senior cross country standout Nicole Radzik (Sutton, Mass.) captured her second-straight overall title in two meets so far this fall season, leading the Bryant women's team to a third place finish at Saturday's 26th running of the Shacklette Invitational at St. Anselm College.  Radzik, who was first overall last week at Amherst, won Saturday's meet in a time of 19 minutes, 18 seconds.  Freshman Jennifer Denise (East Patchogue, NY) was 11th in 21:44 while Casey Fenwick (Wayland, Mass.) and Lindsey Tunak (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished 16th and 18th respectively. On the men's side, sophomore standout Nathaniel Green( York, Maine) placed fourth overall in leading the Bryant men to a second place finish.  Green finished the 8-kilometer course in a time of 27:55. Bryant will host the annual Bryant Invitational Saturday

FIELD HOCKEY (6-2, 6-0 NE-10)
The Bryant field hockey team picked up three more wins over the week to run their win streak to five games.  The Bulldogs knocked off Merrimack and St. Anselm earlier in the week and followed with a 2-1 upset of No. 2 Stonehill Saturday night at home.  Courtney O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Shana Libman (Attleboro, Mass.) each had a goal and an assist in the win.  The Bulldogs, ranked 10th nationally last week, will travel to AIC and Bentley this week.

FOOTBALL (2-0, 2-0 NE-10)
The Bulldogs rallied with 21 unanswered fourth quarter points to tie the game and got a 12-yard touchdown run in overtime from sophomore Lindsey Gamble (Roxbury, Mass.) to earn a thrilling 37-34 come from behind win over Merrimack College Friday night in North Andover, Mass. Gamble rushed for a career-best 177 yards in the game while quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) threw for three touchdowns as the Bulldogs opened the 2007 season 2-0 marking the first time Bryant has started a season with two wins.  The Bulldogs travel to Assumption on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.  Assumption defeated Saint Anselm, 71-21 last week.  Following the Assumption game, Bryant hosts Pace on Sept. 29 for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. 

MEN'S SOCCER (6-2, 3-2 NE-10)
The Bulldogs went 2-1 last week, defeating No. 25 Dominican 1-0 at home on Monday and holding off Saint Rose 3-0 Saturday.  The lone loss was a 1-0 defeat on the road at UMass Lowell Wednesday night.  Senior co-captain Mike Gargiulo (North Branford, CT) had a goal and assist in the win over Saint Rose Saturday. The Bulldogs, now 3-0 at home this season and 6-2 overall (3-2 NE-10), will host Franklin Pierce in a big conference matchup next Saturday at Bulldog Stadium at 2 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (7-0-2, 4-0-1 NE-10)
Ranked No. 4 in the country last week, the highest ever ranking for the Bryant women's soccer program, the Bulldogs picked up two conference wins last week, defeating AIC and UMass Lowell, and earning a 2-2 tie at Bentley.  Sophomore midfielder Alex DiPippo (Shelton, CT) scored the lone goal in the 86th minute in the win over UMass Lowell.  The Bulldogs host Southern NH Wednesday at 3 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (7-7, 2-0 NE-10)
The women's volleyball game evened its record to 7-7 on the season thanks to five wins in as many matches.  After knocking off Saint Anselm on Tuesday night, the Bulldogs rolled to four wins at the Bryant Invitational Friday and Saturday. Likica Grceva (Natick, Mass.) was named to the all-tournament team with 52 kills on the weekend.  The senior had 22 kills and hit .450 in a 3-1 win over C.W. Post Friday night.   Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, IL) averaged 12 assists per game and had 17 service aces for the week.   The Bulldogs will host UMass Lowell Tuesday night before taking part in the Shippensburg University Invitational next weekend in Pennsylvania.

MEN'S GOLF
The Bryant men's golf team opened the 2007 fall season with an 11th-place finish at the Rutgers Invitational, played Sept. 14 & 15 at the Rutgers University Golf Course. South Carolina-Upstate won the 18-team tournament with a three-over par 855 (280-284-291). Bryant was led by Scott Congdon's (Foxboro, Mass.) who finished in a tie for 13th.

SHAWN M. NASSANEY RACE SUNDAY, SEPT. 30
More than 1,000 runners and walkers are expected to descend on the Bryant University campus on Sunday, September 30th, when the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Foundation and Bryant University host the 7th Annual Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Cross Country Race/Walk. The race starts at 1 p.m.

The entry fee for the race and the walk is $30 per person, $15 for students with proper ID, through Sept. 27 and $35 on the day of the race. The fee includes a commemorative long-sleeved t-shirt; a program and a barbecue after the race. Cash and prizes will be awarded. HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS SOUGHT
Nominations for the Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2008 are now being accepted. Nomination forms can be found online at www.bryantbulldogs.com.   This year's class will be announced in October with the induction dinner scheduled for later this winter.
