BRYANT WEEKLY SPORTS UPDATE (pdf version)

HOMECOMING WEEKEND IS HERE!  FOOTBALL OFF TO 3-0 START
Last weekend was another busy one for Bryant's sports teams, however this weekend may prove to be just as busy as Bryant gets ready to celebrate Homecoming & Reunion Weekend on campus. Bryant's fall sports teams are a combined 35-15 to start the season and own a 21-4 conference record.  Football, women's soccer, volleyball, and field hockey are all either alone or tied for first place in the conference this year. Football is undefeated at 3-0 and off its best start in school history while women's soccer is undefeated and ranked No. 2 nationally in Division II.

BULLDOG WEEKLY ROUNDUP ...

CROSS COUNTRY
Behind solid pack running by the Bryant men's cross country team, the Bulldog men picked up a convincing win at Saturday's annual Bryant Invitational Cross Meet.  The Bulldogs finished the meet with 39 points, well ahead of runner up Assumption 68 points and third-place finisher Saint Rose (69 points).  Bryant's Tom Casey (New Windsor, NY) was the first Bulldog to cross the line, finishing in 28:34 while Peter Jacques (Gilsom, NH) and Chris Kelleher (Ellington, Conn.) were sixth and seventh respectively.   Nathaniel Green (York, Maine) earned a top-10 finish, crossing the line in ninth in 29:08.  On the women's side, Bryant senior Nicole Radzik (Sutton, Mass.) captured her third overall title in as many meets this year, finishing the 5K course in a time of 19:44.   Saint Rose took third, fourth, and fifth to earn the overall team title with 32 team points.  Bryant finished second with 47 team points, ahead of Assumption (third) and Southern NH (fourth).

FIELD HOCKEY (7-3, 7-1 NE-10)
The Bryant field hockey team climbed to No. 6 in the latest national poll, up from No. 10 a week ago thanks to their win over Stonehill on Sept. 15. The Bulldogs dropped their only game of the week, falling on the road last Saturday at ninth-ranked Bentley College, 2-0.  Caroline Carr (Wrentham, Mass. / King Phillip) leads the Bulldogs with six goals and two assists on the year.  The Bulldogs host Assumption Wednesday night at 7 pm.

FOOTBALL (3-0, 3-0 NE-10)
The Bulldog football team picked up a 38-28 win at Assumption College Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to another strong performance from sophomore running back Lindsey Gamble (Roxbury, Mass.).  Gamble, who rushed for a career-high 177 yards against Merrimack on Sept. 14, rushed for a 182 and tied a school record with four touchdowns in the team's win over Assumption.  The win gives the Bulldogs a 3-0 record heading into Saturday's homecoming game with Pace University (1 p.m.) at Bulldog Stadium.  It's the first-ever 3-0 start for the football program. The win over Assumption was also the 22nd for coach Marty Fine who passed former coach Jim Miceli for all-time coaching victories.  Saturday's game with Pace can be heard live online at http://www.bryantbulldogs.com/ and can be seen online at http://www.ne10.tv/.  Bryant students are producing the live web streaming broadcast which includes multiple cameras and graphics.

MEN'S SOCCER (6-3, 3-3 NE-10)
The Bryant men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision Saturday to fifth-ranked Franklin Pierce at Bulldog Stadium. The team will host Saint Anselm on Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.  Freshman Norbert Guery (Andover, Mass.) has three goals this season while local product Tom Pagliarini (North Providence, RI) has appeared in six games in his first season at Bryant.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (9-0-2, 6-0-1 NE-10)
The second-ranked Bryant women's soccer team picked up two more wins this past week, defeating Southern New Hampshire, 3-0 Wednesday and pulling out a 1-0 win over visiting Saint Michael's on Saturday.  Sophomore Alex Dipippo (Shelton, Conn.) had the game-winner against the Purple Knights Saturday. Senior Tricia Spada (Dedham, Mass.) leads the way this year with six goals while sophomore Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) has four.  The Bulldogs travel to Le Moyne Tuesday and will host New Haven Friday (7 pm) and Bridgeport this Sunday at 3 pm.

VOLLEYBALL (10-9, 2-0 NE-10)
The Bryant volleyball team improved to 2-0 in conference play this year with a 3-0 win over UMass Lowell last Tuesday night. The Bulldogs split four matches over the weekend at the East Stroudsburg University tournament, defeating Tiffin and host East Stroudsburg, but falling to Shippensburg and Kutztown. Senior Likica Grceva (Natick, Mass.) was named all-tournament.  Grceva had 19 kills and 26 digs vs. Tiffin on Saturday. The Bulldogs host Southern New Hampshire Tuesday night at 7 pm.
