FALL SPORTS UNDERWAY
With the dawn of another academic year and summer in the rearview mirror, the Bryant fall sports teams are off and running.  Four teams have their schedules well underway while football and cross country kick off their respective seasons this weekend.  Bryant, the defending Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup champions, is off to a strong start to the fall season.  Women's soccer has cracked the Division II Top-25 poll while men's soccer ventured to Hawaii to open the season and won both non-conference matches.

BULLDOG WEEKLY ROUNDUP ...

CROSS COUNTRY
The Bryant men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2007 season this season this Saturday at the Amherst College (Mass.) Invitational.  The Bulldogs, under the direction of interim coach Stephanie Reilly, will look to senior Nicole Radzik (Sutton, Mass.) to lead the way this season.  Radzik was an NCAA qualifier last season.  Reilly, a 2002 graduate of Providence College, takes over for Trish Hillery who resigned to return to teaching earlier this summer.

FIELD HOCKEY (1-2, 1-0 NE-10)
The Bryant field hockey team, under the direction of ninth-year coach Coni Fichera, opened the 2007 season with a solid 3-2 win at Assumption College last Wednesday, but fell to Bloomsburg (4-0) and Mansfield (5-3) over the weekend in Pennsylvania.  Caroline Carr (Wrentham, Mass.) had a pair of goals in Sunday's loss to Mansfield and has three this season.

FOOTBALL (0-0, 0-0 NE-10)
The defending co-champions of the Northeast-10 Conference open their season this Saturday at home against American International College.  The Bulldogs, picked to finish fourth in the conference this season, will look to the leadership of senior quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) and the return of eight starters on a defensive unit that allowed opponents just 119 yards per game rushing. Granatell finished the 2006 season with 1,668 passing yards and 17 touchdowns and was ranked No. 2 nationally with a 167.55 passing efficiency.   Bryant football games can be heard live online at http://www.bryantbulldogs.com/ with John McCarthy and Pat Sullivan calling the action. For the second consecutive year, fans can watch every game online at http://www.ne10.tv/.

MEN'S SOCCER (2-1, 0-1 NE-10)
After opening the season with non-conference wins in Hawaii (defeating Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade), the Bulldogs opened Northeast-10 Conference action this past weekend only to come up short, 4-1 to Saint Michael's College.  Norbert Guery (Andover, MA) scored Bryant's only goal, with junior Manny Rodriguez (North Branford, CT) picking up the assist in the 27th minute. The Bulldogs were trailing 2-0 at the time. Guery led the team with two shots on goal, while six other players tallied one shot each. Aaron Vine led the Purple Knight with a goal and two assists in the 4-1 victory.  The Bulldogs (2-1, 0-1 NE-10) will take on rival Bentley College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (3-0-1, 0-0 NE-10)
The Bryant women's soccer team, ranked No. 25 nationally last week, is off to a great start to the 2007 season. The Bulldogs, NE-10 tournament finalists and NCAA participants, opened the season a week ago with a 4-2 win over Adelphi and this past week knocked off Holy Family and Georgian Court.  The one blemish thus far was a 1-1 draw with C.W. Post in Worcester, Mass. on Friday as Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) scored her third goal of the season. Bryant would bounce back Sunday, defeating Georgian Court, 3-0.  The Bulldogs will visit Stonehill Wednesday for the conference opener before hosting regional power Franklin Pierce at home this Saturday night at the Bryant Turf Complex (7 p.m.).

VOLLEYBALL (0-4, 0-0 NE-10)
The Bryant volleyball team opened their season with four losses at the Lewis University Flyer Festival in Illinois over the weekend.  Senior setter Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, Ill.) was named all-tournament.  The Bulldogs will visit AIC on Wednesday for the conference opener before heading up to Waltham, Mass. this weekend for a tournament at Bentley.
