MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TENNIS CAPTURE CONFERENCE TITLES
Sports Banquet Thursday Evening

Congratulations to the Bryant University men's and women's tennis teams for capturing the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Championships over the weekend. The pair of titles marks the first time since 1988 that two teams from the same school won the league title (Springfield, 1988).  Both men's and women's teams will advance to the NCAA tournament May 8-10. The brackets will be announced Wednesday  ... Women's lacrosse hosts a quarterfinal round game Wednesday at 4 pm while the men's team hosts a semifinal game Friday at 4 pm ...  Track & Field hosts the Northeast-10 Conference Championship this Saturday .... Bryant will hold its annual Athletics Awards Banquet this Thursday evening at the Chace Athletic Center.

BULLDOG WEEKLY ROUNDUP ...

BASEBALL (35-14, 23-5 NE-10, 1st)
The red-hot Bulldog baseball team, ranked No. 23 nationally this week, takes a nine-game win streak into Wednesday's home game with Brown University (3:30 p.m.) at the Bryant Baseball Complex.  The Bulldogs defeated Brown, 7-4 last week.  Bryant is currently in first place in the Northeast-10 Conference and first in the latest NCAA regional poll.

SOFTBALL (24-11-1, 21-4-1 NE-10, 2nd)
The Bryant softball team won a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend and will resume a conference game with Saint Anselm from last week on Monday afternoon at 5 p.m. The game was called due to darkness in the 10th inning with the score tied 7-7. The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season Tuesday at Bentley before opening the NE-10 Tournament this Friday. 

MEN'S LACROSSE (12-3, 9-1 NE-10, 2nd)
Men's lacrosse picked up a 24-7 win over Southern NH Saturday at Bulldog Stadium to wrap up the second seed of the NE-10 tournament.  The Bulldogs will receive a first round bye and will host the winner of Tuesday's game between Bentley and Merrimack in the conference semifinals Friday at Bulldog Stadium at 4 p.m.  The winner of that game will likely face Le Moyne in the final Sunday at noon in Syracuse, NY.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE (9-7, 7-3 NE-10, 3rd)
The Bryant women's lacrosse team finished third in the Northeast-10 Conference standings and will host Bentley in a quarterfinal round game Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner of the game will travel to Southern NH for a semifinal round game Friday. Sophomore Allison Faiola (Billerica, MA) set the Bryant single-season scoring record with her 55th of the season this past week.  Senior Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) is close behind with 54 on the year.

MEN'S TENNIS (20-3, 10-0 NE-10, 1st)
Ranked No. 45 nationally and third in the East Region, the Bryant men's tennis team captured the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference regular-season and tournament championship this past weekend. Freshman Cristian Balestrieri (Mark Del Plata, Argentina) was named Northeast-10 Freshman and Player of the Year honors.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (23-2, 12-0 NE-10, 1st)
The Bryant women's tennis team captured their fifth-straight Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship Sunday, defeating Saint Michael's 5-0 Sunday.  The Bulldogs will advance to the NCAA tournament for the fifth time and at No. 2 in the region will likely host the first round May 7-9.   Freshman Katie Francazio (Cranston, RI / La Salle) was named first team all-conference at No. 4 singles while Michelle Burke (Barrington, RI) was named second team at No. 3 singles.

TRACK & FIELD 
The Bryant men's and women's track & field teams will host the Northeast-10 Conference Championships this Saturday at the Bryant Track.


MEN'S GOLF
The Bryant University men's golf team turned in a strong performance Friday at the Northeast Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island.  Competing against a field of Division I teams including several from Bryant's future conference, the Northeast Conference, the Bulldogs took home first place honors after the two-round, one-day tourney.  Bryant was the lone team to score under 300 in both rounds.  Standout Jason Thresher (West Suffield, CT) took medalist honors placing first with a two-round score of 142.  Thresher fired a final round 69 to win by one stroke over Matt McClure of Central Connecticut.  Scott Congdon (Foxboro, MA) placed sixth for Bryant while Nick Caccia (Riverside, RI) was seventh.  The Bulldogs will compete at the NCAA Regionals May 5-7 in Wilmington, Delaware. Bryant is the No. 2 seed of the East Regional.

BULLDOG BLACK & GOLD GOLF TOURNAMENT
This year's annual Black & Gold Golf Outing will be held July 30, 2008 at the Crystal Lake Golf Club in Burrillville, RI. Last year's successful outing was also held at Crystal Lake. The Black & Gold Club Golf Outing is held to raise money for the school's Black & Gold Club. The Black & Gold Club is the Athletics department's main fundraising arm, and goes to supporting student-athletes and coaches through scholarships and capital projects.
