BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP UMASS LOWELL AND RETURN HOME TO HOST SAINT ANSELM WEDNESDAY; GOOD WEEKEND FOR SWIM AND TRACK TEAMSThe Bryant men's and women's basketball teams picked up a pair of crucial Northeast-10 Conference victories at UMass Lowell Saturday. The teams will return to action Wednesday evening hosting Saint Anselm with a big showdown looming this Saturday when the team's travel to Waltham, MA to face rival Bentley.  The men's and women's swim teams continued its strong season with two more wins at St. Michael's while indoor track resumed its schedule last week at Boston University.  The Bulldogs will compete at URI this weekend.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING
The Bryant men's and women's swim teams turned in a strong all-around effort in earning a Northeast-10 Conference dual meet victory at Saint Michael's Saturday afternoon.  The Bulldog men earned a 120-105 victory with the women cruising to a 174-120 win over the Purple Knights.  Individually, Jess Looney (Goffstown, NH) walked away with victories in the 1000 freestyle (10:32.52), 100 backstroke (1:05.71), and 400 individual medley (4:53.21).  Jill Squillante (Sayville, NY) won the 50 backstroke in 30.25 seconds and 100 yard freestyle in a time of 58.13 while Jill Hira (Cheshire, CT) captured top honors in the 500 freestyle in 5:39.71.  The men were led by Steven Nguyen (San Jose, CA) who took firsts in the 50 breaststroke in 30.33 seconds, the 100 breaststroke (1:07.39) and the 50 backstroke (37.84).  Senior Ray Savner (Bethlehem, CT) helped set the tone for the Bulldogs on the day with a strong showing in the 100 freestyle, winning in 50.62 seconds while also adding a first place finish in the 50 freestyle earlier in 23.06 seconds.  The two teams return to action next Saturday when they head to Pleasantville, NY for a tri-meet with host Pace and the University of Bridgeport. It will be the final tune-up before New England's take place Feb. 15.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (13-6, 8-6 NE-10)
Led by sophomore Kelsey O'Keefe's (Warren, MA) fourth double-double of the season (15 points, 12 rebounds) the Bryant University women's basketball team topped UMass Lowell, 60-51, Saturday afternoon at the Costello Athletic Center.  O'Keefe's 15 points led the game, while junior guard Cara Johnson (Endicott, NY) chipped in 13 more with nine boards to help Bryant to its second-straight victory.  The Bryant women round out January play on Sat., Jan. 30 when they face off against Saint Anselm at 5:30 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center. Bryant is 1-0 against the Hawks this season, posting a 79-70 overtime win on the road Nov. 20.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (11-8, 7-7 NE-10)
Cecil Gresham (Bloomfield, CT) scored 17 points and Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) added 16 to lead the Bryant University men's basketball team to a 56-50 win over UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon at Costello Gym. The win improves the Bulldogs' record to 11-8 overall and 7-7 in the Northeast-10.  Sophomore Chris Birrell (Scituate, RI) had 10 points and added eight rebounds for the Bulldogs who will host Saint Anselm this Wednesday at 7:30 pm before heading to Waltham, MA on Saturday to face top-ranked Bentley College in a game that will be broadcast live on CSTV.  Bryant will be looking to avenge a pair of earlier losses to their conference foes as the Bulldogs fell to Saint Anselm, 80-75 in Manchester, NH back on Nov. 20.  Two weeks later, the Bulldogs would fall to Bentley 68-45 at the Chace Athletic Center.

INDOOR TRACK
Competing for the first time since early December, the Bryant University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Boston University Terrier Invitational at the BU Track & Tennis Saturday. The Bulldogs turned in several strong performances including top-10 finishes by Nicole Radzik (Sutton, MA) and Amber Torrey (Plainfield, NH). Competing against a field consisting of teams of all divisions from throughout the Northeast, Radzik placed eighth in the women's 5,000 meters (17:31.54).  Torrey, a senior, showed little rust from the holiday winter break by placing fifth in the weight throw with a best mark of 46 feet, 6.75, and earlier taking 12th in the shot put with a mark of 36-6.75.  In the throws, Steven Haskell (East Bridgewater, MA) had a busy day, finishing 19th in the weight throw (39-8.75) and earlier took 31st in the shot put with a day's best mark of 34 feet, four inches.  The teams will return to action this Friday and Saturday at the University of Rhode Island Mega Meet.

FOOTBALL HANDS OUT 2007 AWARDS AT ANNUAL BANQUET SATURDAY
The Bryant University football team celebrated its 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championship season last Saturday night with the annual year-end banquet held at the Chace Athletic Center. Head coach Marty Fine handed out several academic and all-conference recognition awards during the evening and finished the night handing out hardware to several for various major honors, including:  Bryan Wood (Most Improved), Chris Peaks (Character), Cheyenne Ray (Scout Team), Jeremy Kaufmann (Special Teams), Ralph Squitieri (Offensive Lineman), James Lewis (Defensive Lineman), Charlie Granatell (Offensive Player of Year), Marcus Lindsey (Defensive Player of the Year, Black & Gold Award) and Sean Bergin (Black & Gold).

HALL OF FAME CLASS ANNOUNCED; SIX TO BE ENSHRINED FEB. 9
The Bryant University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2008.  This year's class features five former student-athletes and one contributor who will be inducted during the annual Hall of Fame and Induction Dinner on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the Bello Center's Stepan Grand Hall.  The six new members of the hall of fame, as chosen by a 10-person committee, are: Jeff Renga '03 (Baseball); Ron Renaud '81 (Contributor); Heather Lopes '96 (women's basketball); Marcie Monaco '99 (volleyball); Philip Goss '81 (cross country); and Ray Lyons '97 (men's golf).  This year's class will bring the total number of members of the Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame to 78.  For more information, please contact Jason Sullivan at jsulliva@bryant.edu or signup online at http://www.bryantbulldogs.com/
