BASKETBALL HOSTS ASSUMPTION TUESDAY NIGHT
While the campus remains quiet while the student body
enjoys the semester break, the Bryant men's and women's basketball
teams have been busy returning to conference action. Both
teams will be in action this Tuesday evening at the Chace Athletic
Center, hosting Assumption College in a pair of key Northeast-10
Conference games. The women's game tips off at 5:30 pm followed by
the men at 7:30 pm. The games can be heard live online at http://www.bryantbulldogs.com/ and seen live at http://www.ne10.tv/. Men's and
women's swimming is currently training in the Virgin Islands this
week where they will swim against Providence College on Thursday.
The teams will return home and host WPI on Saturday. Indoor
track is idle until the end of the month.
BULLDOG WEEKLY ROUNDUP ...
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING
The Bryant men's and women's swim teams returned to the
pool after the holiday break with training in the sunny and warm
Virgin Islands. The teams will swim against Providence College on
Thursday in St. Thomas before returning home this weekend and
hosting WPI Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (11-3, 6-2 NE-10)
The Bryant women's basketball team had its nine-game win
streak snapped on Saturday with an 85-71 setback at Saint Rose.
Sophomore Courtney Schermerhorn (Lowell, MA)
scored a career-best 19 points while classmate Kelsey
O'Keefe (Warren, MA) had her third double-double of the
season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior captain
Lynn-Anne Kokoski (Hatfield, MA)
had eight assists. The loss was Bryant's first since Nov. 28
when the Bulldogs fell to Assumption College, 79-49. Bryant
will have a chance to avenge that loss, hosting the Greyhounds
Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (8-6, 4-5 NE-10)
Despite a career-high 26 points from sophomore
Cecil Gresham (Bloomfield, CT), the Bryant men's
basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped with an 85-72
loss at Saint Rose on Saturday. Junior Peter Lambert
(Cumberland, RI) had a memorable night as the third year
walk-on came off the bench to torch the Warriors with a career-high
29 points and a school record nine 3-point field goals.
Lambert broke the previous record of eight three's in a game held
by Chris Burns (twice) and Jason Bennett. The Bulldogs will
host Assumption College on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.
Assumption rallied for a 69-66 win in Worcester, MA back on Nov.
28.
INDOOR TRACK
The Bryant men's and women's indoor track & field
teams are idle for the winter semester break and will return to
action Jan. 25-26 at the Boston University Terrier Classic.
In other news over the break, senior sprinter Haifz
Greigre (Attleboro, Mass.) was selected to participate in
the 2008 Track & Field World Indoor Championships which
will take place March 7-9, 2008 in Valencia, Spain. Greigre will
participate for his native Liberian National Team and will run in
the 4x400 meter relay event that is scheduled for Sunday, March 9.
Greigre, the holder of 13 Bryant indoor and outdoor records,
is the two-time defending Northeast-10 Conference champion in the
outdoor 100m and 200m and has twice qualified for the NCAA
Championships. He won the New England 400 meter championship
last year at the New England Championships in Hanover, NH, posting
the nation's fourth-fastest time in the event. He has also
twice qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 200
meters, earning all-America honors. An outstanding student in
the classroom, Greigre was honored as an Academic All-American by
the USTFCCCA last spring with a perfect 4.0 GPA while taking seven
classes, all while competing during the outdoor season.

HALL OF FAME CLASS ANNOUNCED; SIX TO BE ENSHRINED FEB.

The Bryant University Department of Athletics is pleased
to announce the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2008. This
year's class features five former student-athletes and one
contributor who will be inducted during the annual Hall of Fame and
Induction Dinner on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the Bello
Center's Stepan Grand Hall. The six new members of the hall
of fame, as chosen by a 10-person committee, are: Jeff
Renga '03 (Baseball); Ron Renaud '81
(Contributor); Heather Lopes '96 (women's
basketball); Marcie Monaco '99 (volleyball);
Philip Goss '81 (cross country); and Ray
Lyons '97 (men's golf). This year's class will bring
the total number of members of the Bryant University Athletics Hall
of Fame to 78.
HEATHER LOPES '96 (Women's Basketball)
Lopes scored 1,030 career points as a member of the Bryant
women's basketball team from 1992 to 1996. She helped lead
the Bulldogs to 61 wins during her four year career including an
18-9 record and ECAC Division II Championship in 1995. She
was second on the team in scoring as a junior with 11.1 points per
game.
PHILIP GOSS '81 (Cross Country)
Goss was the first Bryant track athlete to compete in the
Division I New England Track & Field Championship in 1980,
competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Goss still holds
the school steeple chase record, one of the longest standing
records with a time of 9 minutes, 33.14 seconds set in 1980.
Graduating Summa Cum Laude and a member of the Delta Mu Delta honor
society, Goss was team captain of both the cross country and track
& field teams, finishing consistently in the top three all four
years in each cross country meet. He won the RIAAU Cross
Country Championship in 1979.
RON RENAUD '81 (Contributor)
Founder of the Bryant karate club in 1978, Renaud has been
with the club ever since and will celebrate its 30th anniversary
this year in conjunction with his induction into the Hall of Fame.
Renaud helped establish the first men's and women's competition
teams at Bryant and since has trained approximately 1,000 students
during the past thirty years. For the past 15 years, Renaud
has hosted several area tournament and championships at Bryant.
JEFF RENGA '03 (Baseball)
A standout member of the Bryant baseball team, Renga goes
into the Hall Fame with his named still etched in the Bulldog
baseball record book. A first team All-American in 2002,
Renga holds the school record with 99 hits during the 2002 season
and set a record with 196 hits during his career. A First
Team All-Conference selection, he finished the 2002 season ranked
20th in doubles and 32nd nationally in batting average.
MARCIE MONACO '99 (Volleyball)
In the long storied history of Bryant women's volleyball,
former standout Marcie Monaco's name stands out as one of the
best. The 1998 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Co-MVP,
Monaco is second all-time in career service aces and fourth
all-time in most attacks in a season and third in career digs. She
is ranked fifth all-time in Northeast-10 Conference history with
1,764 career digs and second with 326 career service aces.
RAY LYONS '97 (Golf)
Ray Lyons is another former standout member of the Bryant
University men's golf team. A two-time academic All-American,
Lyons was a four-time Northeast-10 Conference Champion as a
medalist and won several individual championships during his
career. Lyons was named All-Northeast-10 Conference all four
years from 1993 to 1996 in leading the Bulldogs to four consecutive
conference championships.
WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENDER DANIELLE MALTA NAMED SCHOLAR
ALL-AMERICAN BY NSCAA
Bryant University women's soccer standout Danielle Malta
(Bethel, CT) has been named to the 2007 National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) / adidas Women's Soccer
Scholar Athlete First Team. A total of 73 student-athletes
from all divisions nationally were selected and will be honored at
the NSCAA All-America luncheon January 19 in Baltimore,
Maryland. Malta, an All-American defender, holds a 3.68 GPA
in Finance at Bryant University and helped lead the Bulldogs to
their second-straight NCAA tournament appearance in 2007. She
started in all 23 contests this past season and was the backbone of
a Bulldog defense that allowed just 21 goals all season. In
addition to earning All-America honors, Malta was named First Team
All-Conference by the Northeast-10, All-Region and Northeast-10
Defensive Player of the Year.
