SPRING SPORTS UNDERWAY
With the close of the winter sports seasons last week, the Bryant
spring sports teams take center stage this week starting Monday
when the red-hot baseball team opens the home season against
Bentley at 3:30 p.m. Softball hosts a pair of
doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday while men's and women's lacrosse
will be under the lights at the Turf Complex Wednesday and
Thursday. Congratulations to Bryant basketball coaches Mary
Burke and Max Good for being named Coaches of the Year by the Rhode
Island Basketball Media.
BULLDOG WEEKLY ROUNDUP ...
TRACK & FIELD
The Bryant University men's and women's track & field teams
open the 2008 outdoor season this Saturday at the Rhode Island
College Invitational. The Bulldogs will host the Northeast-10
Conference Championships on May 3.
MEN'S LACROSSE (3-3, 0-1 NE-10)
The Bryant men's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked and defending
national champion Le Moyne, 8-3 Saturday in Syracuse, NY. The
Bulldogs got two goals from junior Bryan Kaufmann (Putnam Valley,
NY) in the game. Bryant, ranked No. 9 this week, will host
AIC on Wednesday at 7 pm and travel to Saint Michael's Saturday.
The Bulldogs received word this week that next week's home game
with Merrimack (April 5) will be played at Gillette Stadium
starting at 3 p.m.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE (3-2, 1-0 NE-10)
The Bryant women's lacrosse team picked up a 23-5 win over AIC last
Wednesday before falling to defending national champion and current
No. 1 C.W. Post, 20-9 on Saturday. Allison Faiola (Billerica,
MA), Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ) and Delia Glover (Marston
Mills, MA) each had two goals against the Pioneers Saturday.
Bryant will travel to Bentley Tuesday before returning home to host
Franklin Pierce (Thursday) and Assumption (Saturday).
MEN'S TENNIS (9-3, 3-0 NE-10)
The Bryant University men's tennis team will return to action this
weekend when the Bulldogs face Le Moyne in East Hartford, CT on
Saturday and travel to Saint Michael's Sunday. Jose Rodriguez
(Trujillo, Peru) was named the NE-10 Player of the Week last week
after an impressive week in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
WOMEN'S TENNIS (9-2, 5-0 NE-10)
The Bryant University women's tennis team had a week off to refresh
after a busy week in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where the
Bulldogs were able to knock off regional power Bloomsburg. This
week, the Bulldogs return to Northeast-10 Conference action with a
match against Le Moyne Sunday in East Hartford, CT and Saint
Michael's in Colchester, VT on Sunday.
BASEBALL (12-9, 2-0 NE-10)
The Bryant baseball team kicked off the Northeast-10 Conference
season with a doubleheader sweep of Bentley in Waltham, MA on
Saturday. It was the fifth win over Bentley this season with
three coming in non-conference play in Florida in February.
Senior All-American Eric Loh (Greenwich, CT) got the win for the
Bulldogs Saturday in game one (8-7) to move to 4-0 on the
season. Loh gave up nine hits in seven innings of work while
Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT) picked up his second save of the
season. The Bulldogs would win the second 3-1 and will round
out the three-game series hosting Bentley Monday afternoon in the
home opener starting at 3:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL (2-4, 0-0 NE-10)
The Bulldog softball team returns to action this Thursday afternoon
opening Northeast-10 Conference play with a trip to Franklin Pierce
for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs, 2-4 after
a six-game trip to Florida last week, will host Pace and CW Post at
the Bulldog Softball Complex this Saturday and Sunday.
MEN'S GOLF
The Bryant men's golf team returns to action at Bentley April 2.
The Bulldogs placed eighth at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational last
week with Jason Thresher (Suffield, CT) finishing in a tie for
second overall.
BULLDOG NOTES ...
SPRING FOOTBALL GAME APRIL 12
The Bryant football team will hold its annual Black & Gold
Spring Football game on Saturday, April 12 at the Bryant Turf
Complex. The game is scheduled to kick off roughly around 1:30 p.m.
and will conclude the team's spring practice that will commence the
week of March 19.
BULLDOG BLACK & GOLD GOLF TOURNAMENT
This year's annual Black & Gold Golf Outing will be held July
30, 2008 at the Crystal Lake Golf Club in Burrillville, RI. Last
year's successful outing was also held at Crystal Lake. The Black
& Gold Club Golf outing is held to raises money for the
school's Black & Gold Club. The cost is $150 per golfer
