SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University conducted its annual Athletics Awards Dinner Thursday evening in the Chace Athletic Center with football standout Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) and cross country / track & field star Nicole Radzik (Sutton, MA) named Male and Female Athletes of the Year respectively.
Granatell helped quarterback the Bryant football team to their second Northeast-10 Conference Championship and second-straight berth in the NCAA playoffs in 2008.
The senior completed a school record 165 passes for 1,957 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to an 8-3 overall record and 8-1 mark in the Northeast-10.
Named the Northeast-10 Conference MVP, Granatell concludes his career holding all of Bryant's career passing records including 6,816 career passing yards and 56 career passing touchdowns. A two-year team captain, he was ranked No. 2 nationally in passing efficiency in 2006.
Radzik won six of eight races in 2007 during the cross country season including winning the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championship as well as the 2007 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, qualifying for the national championships in November where she placed 40th among the more than 200 competitors.
