BRYANT CAPTURES FOURTH PRESIDENTS' CUP TROPHY FOR ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE
SMITHFIELD, RI - After perhaps the most successful year in Bryant University history, the Bulldogs have captured the 2007-08 Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup. This year marks the fourth time Bryant has taken home the Presidents' Cup trophy awarded annually to signify overall athletic excellence among the 15 member institutions that make up the Northeast-10 Conference. The Cup is awarded to the institution that compiles the most points based on regular season standings.
This is the fourth Presidents' Cup trophy awarded to Bryant and
the second in as many years for the Bulldogs who will begin their
transition to Division I starting this fall.
"Winning the Presidents' Cup is an honor and a tribute to the outstanding hard work and commitment by Bryant's student-athletes, coaches and support staff," said Bryant Athletic Director Bill Smith. "It was a remarkable season for Bryant Athletics and to conclude the academic year with the Presidents' Cup trophy is something our entire community can be very proud of. As a charter member of the Northeast-10 Conference, Bryant University wishes everyone in the league the very best in the future."
The Bulldogs had consistent success throughout the 2007-2008 academic year, finishing in the top five in 17 sports (Men's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Men's Golf, Women's Soccer, Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Indoor Track & Field, Baseball, Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, Softball, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis, Men's Outdoor Track & Field and Women's Outdoor Track & Field).
In conference play, Bryant teams went a combined 167-45-3 and enjoyed a 282-116-6 overall record. Twenty players earned All-America and All-Region honors while 60 earned All-Conference recognition.
Bryant claimed the Northeast-10 regular season title in baseball, football, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball. The Bulldogs then went on to win the Northeast-10 Tournament in men's lacrosse, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
