SMITHFIELD, RI -- It may not be homecoming, but it may feel like it around the Bryant University campus this weekend. That's because there will be several prominent alumni returning for the annual Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony this weekend.
On Friday night at the Bello Center, Bryant will welcome four new members into the Athletics Hall of Fame: men's golfer Bob Brown '91 (Trumbull, CT), football player Greg Wolyniec '01 (Vernon, CT), women's volleyball player Bumni Akinnusotu '03 (Woonsocket, RI), and men's lacrosse standout Kevin Barletta '03 (Mahopac, NY).
While this weekend will mark the seventh women's volleyball player and 11th men's golfer to enter the Bryant Athletics Hall of Fame, history will be made with the first-ever football and men's lacrosse player to be enshrined.
Wolyniec was a member of Bryant's first-ever varsity football team and stands second all-time with 227 career tackles. Barletta was a four-time all-American and stands as Bryant's all-time career points leader. A strong contingent of former men's lacrosse players are expected to be on campus this weekend. In addition to the Hall of Fame, the current men's lacrosse program, featuring standout Zack Greer, 2-1 on the season after defeating Dartmouth Tuesday, will open the home season Saturday hosting Wagner at 1 p.m.
But also expected back are many of the current Hall of Famers like Beth Conneally-Wandyes ‘96 (Women's Basketball), Archie Boulet (Golf Coach), Jen Carvalho '98 (Volleyball), Dave French '89 (Golf). In addition members of the 1966-67 Men's Basketball Team, the only team in the Hall of Fame, expected to return include Tony DeQuattro '67, Maurice Clare '67, Mike Fisher '67, Ed McManus '67, John McVeigh '67, Jim Squadrito and Pete "Sticks" Sullivan '67.
