LOOKING BACK AT SOME OF THE TOP MOMENTS OF 2010 IN BRYANT SPORTS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- As we get ready to turn the calendars over to 2011, we thought it might be a good idea to take a look back at some of the memorable moments from the 2010 Bryant Athletics season.  There were numerous individual achievements, school records set and even the school's first-ever conference championship since moving up to the Division I level.

Here's a look back at some great moments in Bulldogs' sports:

 
February 18, 2010 - Freshman Raphael Jordan had hand in perhaps the biggest basketball win for the Bulldogs last February as the then-freshman sank two free throws in the final seconds to give Bryant its first victory of the 2009-10 season at Wagner College.
 
February 20, 2010 - Deidre Doyle won NEC conference indoor title in mile and 3000m and named most outstanding rookie at the conference championships.  The men and women's indoor track teams set numerous school record including a standout performance by the 4x400m men - Mike DiBella, Joe Pugliano, Tom O'Connor and Alex Engel. Engel would later break the school record in the 400m at the New England Championships. She would continue her success in the spring, winning another NEC outdoor title and shattering more school records.
 
February 27, 2010 - Freshman Casey Ostrander broke the 100 backstroke school record in leading the women's swim team to a fourth-place finish at the NEC Championships.  Ostrander was named Rookie of the Championship and First Team All-Northeast Conference.  Alex Kosenski broke the men's 200m freestyle record at the ECAC Championships.  In, three men's records were set at the meet.
 
March 10, 2010 - Baseball defeats Virginia Tech 5-4 on the road as Dylan Stone had four hits in the game and freshman Peter Kelich, making his first career start in a Bulldog uniform, pitched a gem to earn the victory.
 
March 29, 2010 - Women's Basketball senior standout Kelsie O'Keefe was named the Rhode Island Basketball Player of the Year as voted on by the Rhode Island media.  O'Keefe earned First Team All-Northeast Conference honors as she closed out a incredible career finished third all-time for points scored and fourth in rebounds.  O'Keefe averaged 15.6 ppg as the Bulldogs went 13-16 overall and posted a 10-8 record in the NEC.
 
April 23, 2010 - Max Weisenberg tallied a hat-trick to lift the Bryant men's lacrosse team to a 9-7 win over No. 11 Yale University in New Haven.  The Bulldogs would go on to post a 12-5 record overall and perfect 4-0 mark in the NEC.  Matt Murnane was named Defensive Player of the Year in the NEC.  Murnane, who also earned honorable mention all-America honors, led a list of seven all-conference honorees for the Bulldogs.  Senior standout Andrew Hennessey was drafted by the Denver Outlaws of the MLL.
 

May 19, 2010 - Baseball clinched the 2010 Northeast Conference regular season championship with a 9-0 win over Sacred Heart on May 19, 2010 at the Bryant Baseball Complex.  The Bulldogs turned in a historic first year competing in the league finishing with a 25-7 conference mark and 34-22 record overall.  Freshman Kevin Brown was named Rookie of the Year and senior Brent Almeida earned NEC Pitcher of the Year.

 

June 3, 2010 - Men's golf standout Jason Thresher was named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Year and the GCAA Division I All-Region after a brilliant senior season.  Thresher would earn five weekly golfer of the week awards from the NEC after winning three tournaments with a conference-best 73.5 average.

 

 

July 23, 2010 - Director of Athletics Bill Smith received notification that both men's lacrosse and field hockey have completed their two-year transition to Division I and are immediately eligible to participate in the NCAA Championships starting in 2010-11.
 
July 25, 2010 - Bryant head men's lacrosse coach Mike Pressler led Team USA to the Gold Medal at the FIL World Championships in Manchester, England.  Bulldog Evan Roberts was a member of Team England while former standout Zack Greer led Team Cananda to the championship game which was eventually won by Team USA 12-10.  
 

September 11, 2010 - Women’s Volleyball Defeats Boston College 3-2 to complete a perfect 4-0 record at the Bryant Invitational.  Maria Scocca had 31 kills on Saturday of the tournament and tallied 70 for the weekend in earning all-tourney honors.

 
October 31, 2010 - The Bryant field hockey team defeated Sacred Heart 3-2 in overtime to earn its first-ever berth in the Northeast Conference tournament. The Bulldogs would finish the year 8-12 overall and 5-2 in the NEC.
 

November 13, 2010 - Football Beats Nationally-Ranked Robert Morris as sophomore Jordan Brown rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns against the conference champs. The Bryant defense picked off three RMU passes including one returned by Addison Lynch 49 yards for a touchdown and another by Samad Wagstaff who returned it 90 yards for a score much to the delight of the Bulldog faithful.

 

November 14, 2010 - Raphael Jordan’s dramatic three-point field goal at the buzzer gave the Bryant men’s basketball team a thrilling 74-72 win over Iona College in the final game of the World Vision Basketball Classic in Cleveland, Ohio.
