Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut junior pitcher Joe Vingo and freshman right-hander Justin Cox  combined for 12 innings of one-run baseball (unearned), but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs edged the Owls in 13 innings on Monday afternoon (Apr. 4), 3-1.

In the top half of the 13th inning and two Bulldogs on base, sophomore first baseman Mike Rocco singled to left-center field to drive in the two winning runs as Bryant improves its record to 11-6 on the season overall, 5-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Rocco, Daryle Crowley, and Adam Rourke each had a pair of hits while Stephen Sloan pitched eight innings with David Rappoli picking up the win in relief.

Vingo and Cox pitched well for the Owls, as Vingo started the game for Southern and pitched the first six innings, allowing just three hits and an unearned run.  Cox came on in the seventh inning and surrendered just one hit while striking out six in as many innings pitched.

The Owls, now 5-7 overall on the season and 3-2 in the NE-10, were led by seniors Bob Pentino and Jeremy Terni . Pentino collected three hits in five at-bats with a run scored, and Terni went 3-for-6 batting in the cleanup position.

Bryant will host Saint Rose on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Bryant baseball complex.
