BRYANT DEFEATS SAINT ROSE 4-3 IN 11 INNINGS
Mike Rocco Hits Game-Winner Once Again
Box Score
SMITHFIELD, RI - For the second day in-a-row, Bryant sophomore Mike Rocco (right) delivered in the clutch with a game-winning hit. Yesterday, Rocco singled in a pair of runs in the 13th to lead Bryant past Southern Connecticut. Today against Saint Rose, it was Rocco's triple to right with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that helped the Bulldogs draw even with Saint Rose at 3-3 and force extra innings.
And once again, in the bottom of the eleventh, it was Rocco again lining a single into left to drive in the winning run as Bulldogs defeated the visiting Golden Knights 4-3 for the their ninth-straight win here Tuesday afternoon.
The win is the ninth-straight for the Bryant (12-6, 6-0 NE-10). Saint Rose (10-10, 1-1 NE-10) was led by David Stringham's pair of hits and two RBIs but four defensive errors by the Golden Knights proved costly.
Saint Rose led 2-0 after one inning as the Golden Knights chase Bryant starter Matt Gaynor early in the second inning. Stringham's two-run single gave the visitors the early lead. Bryant trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth before rallying with two runs, one coming as a result of a throwing error by Saint Rose catcher Joe Mariano trying to catch Bryant's Adam Rourke on a double steal.
Saint Rose starting pitcher Jeremiah St. Louis pitched well through 8 2/3 innings of work. The freshman held Bryant to three runs while striking out nine before giving way to Chris Viscuso. The two teams will meet again in Albany, N.Y. this Thursday afternoon (3:30 p.m.).
