Boxscore

SMITHFIELD, RI -  Steve Gath (Reading, Mass.) went 3-for-5 while Joe Herzog (Cheshire, Mass.) pitched a complete-game six hitter as the Bentley College baseball team picked up a 6-2 win at Bryant University in Northeast-10 Conference action Thursday afternoon.

Bryant (17-13, 11-7 NE-10) took an early 1-0 lead as Nick Tucarella (Salem, N.H.) lined a double to right to score Paul Novakowski (Prospect, Conn.) from first in the top half of the first inning. The Bulldogs would add another run in the second as Mickey Ryan (Lowell, Mass.) scored from third on an error by Gath at shortstop.

From there, Herzog kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard as Bryant managed just four hits the rest of the way. It was Herzog's second complete game of the year as the freshman lefthander struck out five Bryant batters and walked four.

Bentley (10-19, 7-10 NE-10) tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as Tim Bryant (Reading, Mass.) led off the inning with a double to center.  He would score two batters later as Jason Cooper (Ashland, Mass.) doubled down the left field line.  Bob Savoy (Norwell, Mass.) would follow with a sacrifice fly to even the score.

The Falcons would take the lead for good in the sixth as Gath led off the inning with a double and would later score on Chad Mastin's (Newmarket, N.H.) groundout.

Bryant starter Matt Gaynor (Hyde Park, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits in the game.

The Bulldogs will host Franklin Pierce for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 noon.
