STONEHILL DEFEATS BRYANT 5-3 MONDAY
Boxscore
SMITHFIELD, RI - Stonehill College pitcher Billy Sittig
(West Roxbury, Mass.) picked up his seventh win of the
season as the Chieftains held on to defeat Bryant University, 5-3
in Northeast-10 Conference action Monday at the Bryant Baseball
Complex.
Sittig rebounded from a slow start to pick up his third complete
game of the season as the junior righty allowed just three runs
while striking out 10 Bryant batters. The Bulldogs erupted
for three runs in the first inning as Daryl Crowley
(Danvers,
Mass.) lined a one out double to
right field. Paul Novakowski (Prospect,
Conn.), Nick Tucarella
(Salem,
N.H.) and Chris Brown
(Norwalk,
Conn.) all followed with
consecutive singles as Bryant led 3-0 after one.
Bryant pitcher David Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.)
pitched well early, holding Stonehill without a hit heading into
the fourth, but that's when the Chieftains went to work,
pushing across three in the inning as T.J. Piscatelli
(Norfolk, Mass.) lined a two-out, 1-2 pitch into right to
score a pair of runs while David Fradatte
(Goffstown, N.H.) followed with an RBI single of his own
to pull the Chieftains even at 3-3.
Stonehill (18-12, 11-7 NE-10) would go ahead for good with a run in
the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh.
Piscatelli was 2-for-3 at the plate for Stonehill.
Bryant (17-15, 11-9 NE-10), managed just three hits off
Sittig after the first as Novakowski finished with a pair of hits
on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs will travel to Merrimack (3:30 p.m.) on Tuesday and
host Assumption Wednesday in a makeup game at the Bryant Baseball
Complex.
