SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Jamie Pinzino, former head baseball coach at Assumption College, has been named head baseball coach at Bryant University. The announcement was made today by Interim Director of Athletics John Ruppert.   Pinzino replaces John Sjogren who was named head coach at Rollins College earlier this month.

“I am both excited and honored to become the head coach of the Bryant University baseball program,” stated Pinzino. “To have a chance to coach a program with the tradition and success established by Jon Sjogren, is a great honor.”  

A 1998 graduate of Tufts University in Medford, Mass., Pinzino spent one season at Assumption College, guiding the Greyhounds to an 11-28 record and 10-18 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.  His responsibilities included the coordination of all recruiting efforts plus overseeing the academic progress of student-athletes. 

Prior to arriving at Assumption, Pinzino was an assistant coach at Tufts, his alma mater, from 2002 to 2004.  A four-year varsity member of the Tufts baseball team, Pinzino helped lead the Jumbos to a berth in the 1995 NCAA Division III Regional and was a member of three E.C.A.C. Championship teams (1994, 1996, 1997). 

Pinzino also held assistant coaching positions at Holy Cross (2002), Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, California (1998) Westboro American Legion (1997-98), St. John’s High School (1998-2002) and the head coach for the Northboro American Legion (1999-2004). 

A 1993 graduate of St. John’s High School in 1993, Pinzino earned the Pioneer Award as a standout third baseman. 

Bryant posted a 21-20 record in 2005, a year removed from the school’s first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and appearance in the 2004 College World Series.
