Bryant Ends Slide with 3-2 Win Over Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. (April 14, 2005) - The Bryant baseball team ended a five-game losing skid with a 3-2 win over Saint Anselm on Thursday. Bryant managed just three hits in th game but All-American Stephen Sloan went the distance for the Bulldogs.
Trailing 3-0, Anthony Modoono led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double to right center. One out later, Modoono moved to third on a single up the middle by Josh Skowyra. The next batter, Ryan Call, followed with a double to left center, driving in a run to make the score 3-1. Tom Sheehan then came up and hit a single over the shortstop's head to cut the lead to one with one out and runners at the corners. However, Adam Hussey followed with a foul out to the catcher and Mike Craig ended the inning with a groundout to third base.
Stephen Sloan (Franklin, Mass.) set the Hawks down 1-2-3 in the ninth to shut the door on a 3-2 win. Sloan pitched the complete game and only gave up two runs on six hits while striking out six batters. John Lenkowski settled down after the second inning, only giving up one hit the rest of the way in the complete game. He finished with three runs allowed on three hits and four walks.
Bryant took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. With one out and a runner on base, Chris Brown (Norwalk, Conn.) doubled to left center and scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. After a walk and a single that advanced the runner to third, Sloan helped himself with a sacrifice fly to drive in the run and give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
With the win Bryant improves to 13-11 on the season and 7-5 in the NE-10. Saint Anselm falls to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference. The Bulldogs will host Southern N.H. for a double header on Saturday starting at 12 noon at the Bryant baseball complex.
