Baseball Returns to Campus After Successful Summer Programs
When the Bryant University Baseball team begins its fall season on September 8th, several players will be returning from participating in some of the premier collegiate summer leagues in the country.
"Participation in summer baseball is an important part of the development of our players," notes head coach Jamie Pinzino. "We try to get our guys in an environment where they can get playing time, compete at a high level, and come back to school as a better ballplayer."
Shortstop Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) and outfielder Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, MA) were key contributors to the Fort Collins (CO) Foxes, the champions of the Mountain Collegiate League. McKenna hit .310 with two homeruns and 14 RBI, Ferguson batted .303 with 3 doubles, 3 triples, and 14 RBI.

Senior pitcher Luke Cowan (Atlanta, GA) was named to the mid-season All Star team in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Cowan finished the season 3-3 with a 3.94 e.r.a. in 47 innings for the Allegany County Nitros.

Pitcher Kevin Cobb (Acton, MA) and catcher Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) played for the Manchester (CT) Silkworms of the New England Collegiate League. Vigurs started 17 games, batting .220 with 1 homerun and 5 RBI. Cobb appeared in 14 games on the mound, with a 2-3 record and a 4.70 e.r.a.

Also in the New England Collegiate League, with the Lowell All-Americans, were pitchers Dan Lozeau (Pelham, NH) and Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT). Lozeau was 1-0 with a 0.00 era in nine innings pitched and Polvani had a 4.50 era in 12 innings.
