BRYANT PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE; THIRD IN NORTHEAST REGIONAL POLL

SMITHFIELD, RI - After a 2007 season that saw the Bulldogs finish third in the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference regular-season and storm to the championship games of both the conference tournament and the NCAA Northeast Regional, the 2008 Bryant University baseball team was selected to finish second in the NE-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll and third in the NCBWA Division II Northeast Regional Poll.

The Bulldogs finished 35-24 for their 2007 campaign, erasing from memory a less-impressive 18-33 record from 2006. The turnaround led to a number of postseason honors for Bryant, including Third-Team All-American and First-Team All-Conference accolades for Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.), Third-Team All-Conference honors for Freshman of the Year Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.) and Coach of the Year honors for head coach Jamie Pinzino.

Pitcher Kevin Cobb (Acton, Mass.) and shortstop Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.) both earned Second-Team All-Conference accolades, while Dan Lozeau (Pelham, N.H.), Adam Vuolo (Walpole, Mass.), Jason Alexander (Simsbury, Conn.) and Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) joined Vigurs as Third-Team All-Conference selections.

Bryant earned 153 points in this year's preseason conference poll, topped only by Franklin Pierce University (169 points). The Ravens, defending Northeast Region and Northeast-10 regular-season and tournament champions, were the unanimous top choice in both the NE-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll and the NCWBA Northeast Regional Preseason Poll.

In the regional poll, Franklin Pierce and Adelphi University were picked ahead of the Bulldogs, who sit at No. 3.

Bryant's 2008 season kicks off this weekend, as the Bulldogs travel to Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. and face off against a familiar opponent in Northeast-10 rival Bentley College before taking on Rollins later that night. Games are at 3 and 7 p.m.
