AIC
SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Bryant University baseball team made it a three-game weekend sweep of American International College with a 4-1 win over the Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon. The win improves Bryant's record to 36-14 overall and 23-5 in the Northeast-10. The Bulldogs will step out of conference Monday with a non-league game at Northeastern and will host Brown Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth as senior Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) singled to lead off the inning and later scored from third on a RBI-single to left center field of the bat of sophomore Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.). The Bulldogs then made it a 2-0 game in the sixth on Dondero's sacrifice fly that scored sophomore Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.).
AIC got a run back in the bottom of the seventh as senior David Dest connected on a leadoff single through the middle of the infield and later scored on sophomore Dan Bassani's ground out to first base. Bryant added two more runs in the eight on an error and balk for the 4-1 final
The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with one out in the ninth before sophomore Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) got Bassani to ground into a six-four-three double play to end the game and record his ninth saves of the season. Senior Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.) allowed just one run on two hits with five strikeouts over eight innings as he improved to 8-2 on the season.
