SMITHFIELD, RI -- The Bryant University baseball team received a No. 25 national ranking from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) in the Week One polls, released Tuesday, March 4. The Bulldogs also climbed up one spot in the NCBWA Northeast Regional Poll and are now ranked No. 2 after taking a trio of wins out of Florida this weekend.
The Bulldogs, now 6-3 overall, were ranked No. 3 in the 2008 NCBWA Preseason Regional Poll, but after Week 1 trail only Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce, who received all nine first-place votes with a 2-0 record. The Ravens are also the only other conference team ranked on the national scene, where they sit at No. 5 with a 2-0 record.
On the weekend, Bryant took wins over Mercyhurst College (6-2), the College of Saint Rose (12-3) and Bloomfield College (3-2/15 innings).
Adelphi, Caldwell College and Dowling round out the Northeast Regional top five, while Northeast-10 Conference members UMass Lowell (No. 6) and Pace University (No. 7) also appear on this week's poll.
