McKENNA GRAND SLAM LEADS BRYANT TO 15-5 WIN OVER FELICIAN
Bulldogs four-hit Felician; Smack three home runs
LODI, N.J. -- The Bryant University baseball team kicked off its 10-game Spring Break trip with a convincing 15-5 win over Felician College Sunday afternoon at Kennedy Park.
The Bulldogs (7-3) led Felician, 8-1, through four innings after Bryant loaded the bases with just one out for junior Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.), who broke the game open with a grand slam to left-center field. The four-run top of the fourth followed a four-run second and third for the 8-1 lead.
Felician's Mike Libretta had the Golden Eagle's (3-5) first hit in the bottom of the fourth, with a solo shot off starter Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.), while all five of the home team's runs were scored off the long shot. Chris Flynn went deep in the sixth, and freshman Hector Bello recorded his first career homer with a three-run blast in the seventh.
The Bulldogs knocked a trio of shots out of the park themselves, starting with McKenna's fourth-inning grand slam. Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run round-tripper in the ninth, while junior transfer Pat O'Connor (Mattapoisett, Mass.) also homered and scored three times in the winning effort.
Three Bulldog pitchers combined on the four-hitter, with starter Loh striking out 10 and allowing five runs on three hits in 6.1 innings to move to 3-0 on the year. Freshman John Michael Ryan (Worcester, Mass.) threw 1.2 innings of relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts before Chris Foundas (Needham, Mass.) gave a 1-2-3 ninth to finalize the 15-5 tally.
McKenna finished the day 3-for-6 with a triple, grand slam and six runs batted in, while teammate Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) went 4-for-6.
Felician starter B.J. Senna (1-1) worked three innings for the Golden Falcons, giving up four earned runs.
