BRYANT COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OF ASSUMPTION WITH 5-0 WIN MONDAY

SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University baseball team scored early and held Assumption College to just a trio of hits to down the Greyhounds, 5-0, at the Bryant Baseball Complex Monday afternoon, completing a sweep of the season series.
Back-to-back walks followed by a wild pitch and a stolen base put runners in scoring position in the bottom of the second for designated hitter Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.), who roped a one-out single down the left field line to score both Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) and Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.), giving the Bulldogs (26-13, 14-4 Northeast-10) a 2-0 lead.
Ferguson would be walked and brought around to score again in Bryant's half of the fourth, when Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) lined a one-out RBI single into left field, crossing home plate himself three batters later on a Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) sacrifice fly.
Bryant's 4-0 advantage remained intact through the eighth, when the Bulldogs took the Greyhounds (21-11, 4-14) for one more and the 5-0 final tally. Assumption managed just five base runners (three hits, two Bryant errors) in the nine-inning affair, as Bulldog starter Dan Lozeau threw five 1-2-3 innings in his second complete game of the season to get the win. Lozeau moves to 3-2 on the year and struck out three on the day.
The Greyhounds used six different pitchers in an effort to thwart the Bulldogs, but it was starter Dustin Wirzburger (1-4) who took the loss, tossing just 2.0 innings and allowing two runs on two hits with two walks, a strikeout and a pair of wild pitches.
The Bulldogs were led by 1-for-4 performances by Dondero (2 RBI) and Muscatello (1 run, 1 RBI), along with a 1-for-2 day from Ferguson (2 runs, 1 RBI). Jeff Barbale, Matthew Jose and Mike Baillargeon recorded the only hits of the afternoon for Assumption.
The Bulldogs take the field again Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to Southern Connecticut State University for a 3:30 p.m. bout with the Owls.
