BRYANT ROLLS PAST SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT, 10-0, TUESDAY

Boxscore

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Led by a three-RBI, two-run day from sophomore Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.), the Bryant University baseball team got 16 hits to rolled past Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University, 10-0, at The Ballpark Tuesday afternoon.

But it took the Bulldogs (27-13, 15-4 NE-10) until the sixth to break the scoreless deadlock, when with one out, Campbell reached on a single to center field and moved all the way to third on a dribbling bunt single up the first-base line by Pat O'Connor (Mattapoisett, Mass.). Sophomore Jeff Vigurs (South Windor, Conn.) followed with a squeeze bunt up the third-base line to pick up a sacrifice and an RBI, as Campbell came home from third to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Bryant broke the game wide open in the seventh frame, exploding for four runs off five hits to go up 5-0. Jason Alexander (Simsbury, Conn.) got the frame's first RBI with a line-drive single to left field to plate Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.), who got aboard via his own single to left center.

A two-run two-bagger from Campbell brought home Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Alexander, and when a muffed throw moved Campbell to third, the fourth run was brought home on an O'Connor grounder to the left side.

The Bulldogs added five more in the top of the eight, highlighted by a lead-off triple from shortstop Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.), along with four other hits to total the 10-0 final.

Southern Connecticut (18-15, 8-6) starter Ed Bethke (3-2) took the loss on the day, giving up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 6.2 innings. The sophomore fanned three.

Bulldog ace senior Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.) earned the victory, moving to 6-2 on the year. Over 6.2 shutout innings of his own, Loh gave up five hits and struck out eight.

Campbell went 3-for-5 on the afternoon, with a pair of runs scored and three RBI, while O'Connor added a two RBI on a 2-for-4 day from the plate. Ferguson and Muscatello each crossed the plate twice as well.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 17, when they host Southern Connecticut at the Bryant Bulldog Complex. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
