BRYANT PLACES 65 STUDENT-ATHLETES ON NEC ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
SOMERSET, NJ – A total of 65 Bryant University student-athletes have been named to the Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, including nine earning Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction. In addition, men’s tennis junior Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and women’s tennis senior Chelsea Downing (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) were recognized as NEC Spring Scholar-Athletes for 2010.

BRYANT BASEBALL, SOFTBALL NAMED 2010 NEC TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced its spring Team Sportsmanship Award winners this afternoon. Monmouth was honored in men’s golf, women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis, while Bryant earned a pair of awards in baseball and softball. Quinnipiac was the women’s outdoor track and field recipient, Robert Morris claimed women’s golf accolades and Saint Francis (PA) earned men’s tennis plaudits.

SMITHFIELD, R.I -- Following an outstanding freshman season, the awards continue to roll in for Bryant University baseball standout Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass./ Algonquin) who was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American for 2010, selected by Collegiate Baseball, Brown was one of 14 freshman outfielders selected, joining players from some of the top Division I baseball programs in the country.

BRYANT'S JEFF VIGURS DRAFTED BY CHICAGO CUBS IN 22ND ROUND
SMITHFIELD, RI – Concluding a brilliant career only a month ago, Bryant University baseball standout Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.) will now continue his career at the professional level after he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 22nd round (670th overall) during Tuesday’s Major League Baseball draft.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Following a historic season for the Bryant University baseball team, the Bulldogs were rewarded Wednesday, earning seven All-Northeast Conference selections and a trio of majors awards as announced by the league office. Bryant captured three of the four major awards as voted by the league coaches, including Pitcher of the Year in Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) and Rookie of the Year in Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin).

Senior Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) receives his second weekly honor after pitching the Bulldogs to a win over Sacred Heart last Wednesday, a game that saw the Bulldogs officially clinch the 2010 conference regular season title.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A day after clinching its first Northeast Conference regular-season title, the Bryant University baseball team split a doubleheader Thursday afternoon under beautiful sunny skies at the Bryant Baseball Complex. After dropping the opener, 5-1, to the Pioneers, the Bulldogs stormed back to take the second behind the strong pitching of freshman Sal Lisanti, who earned his first complete game with a 14-1 Bryant victory.

Freshman pitcher Peter Kelich (Jackson, N.J.) won his NEC-leading 8th decision, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just three earned runs on 11 hits.

The Bryant baseball team opened up a four-game series at Quinnipiac University Thursday afternoon with a 4-1 victory as senior right handed hurler Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning. Bryant (28-21, 19-6) remains three games ahead in the NEC standings over second place Sacred Heart, while the Bobcats—one of many teams vying to make the four-team NEC tournament that begins May 27th—fell to 14-32 and 13-12 in the NEC.

SMITHFIELD-All nine Bulldog starters hit safely as the Bryant University baseball team defeated intrastate rival Brown University (13-31, 10-10 IVY), 9-4, at the Bryant Baseball Complex Wednesday afternoon. In beating the Bears, Bryant (24-20, 15-5 NEC) closed out its 2010 non-conference schedule, as Bryant’s remaining 12 games will be against Northeast Conference competition.

The slugfest that featured a combined five home runs and 29 hits between the two squads, with URI hitting three two-run home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

PAIR OF WALKOFF WINS LIFTS BULLDOGS PAST BLUE DEVILS
SMITHFIELD – Sophomore first basemen Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) hit a walk-off home run for the second time in as many days in Game 1, and Bryant scored 5 unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth of Game 2 to vault the Bulldogs to a sweep of rival Central Connecticut State on Sunday at the Bryant Baseball complex. Bryant won the seven-inning opener 6-5 and took the nine-inning nightcap 10-9 in what was a very wild Sunday afternoon of baseball. With the pair of wins, Bryant improves its record to 13-15 overall and 5-3 in the NEC. CCSU fell to 10-11 overall and 6-6 in the NEC with the losses.

SKAGERLIND’S WALK-OFF BLAST EARNS BRYANT SPLIT IN NEC DOUBLE-HEADER
Sophomore first baseman Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) belted a walk-off solo home run down the right field line in the bottom of the tenth inning to help earn the Bryant baseball team a split over visiting Central Connecticut State in an NEC double-header Saturday afternoon. Bryant (11-15, 3-3 NEC) defeated CCSU (10-9, 6-4 NEC) 3-2 in the first game before falling in the nightcap, 5-1. The two teams will meet for another double-header on Sunday afternoon to complete the four-game series.

Winners of seven straight, the Bryant University baseball team entered Wednesday’s game at Boston College riding the wave of solid pitching and timely hitting. The Bulldogs did manage eight hits against the ACC Eagles, but could scratch across just three runs in falling 11-3.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior pitcher Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) won his 16th career game and improved to 2-4 on the season with another strong performance in leading Bryant University to a 5-0 baseball win over Harvard Tuesday afternoon. The win, Bryant’s seventh-straight, improves the Bulldogs’ record to 10-13 on the year heading into Wednesday’s game at Boston College (3:00 pm).

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.) went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in while senior Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) drove in three runs as the Bryant University baseball won its fifth in-a-row Friday, defeating the University of Hartford 14-1 in non-conference action at the Bryant Baseball Complex. He is the second Bulldog to receive the Rookie of the Week, joining teammate Peter Kelich (Jackson, N.J.) who earned the same honor two weeks ago.

Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.) had four hits on the day and the Bulldogs got a big lift with a strong pitching performance by newcomer making his first start in a Bulldog uniform.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Bryant University baseball team let a 4-1 lead slip away late as host Virginia Tech rallied with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to knock off the Bulldogs 5-4 Tuesday. The Bulldogs (1-7) loaded the bases in the top of the ninth with one out but had the tying run thrown out at the plate.

After going 0-for-3 on its weekend trip to Davidson, N.C., the Bryant University baseball team heads to the state of Virginia the next three days searching for its first win of the season. Bryant (0-6), playing in its second season of Division I, will travel to Lexington,Va. Monday to face VMI at 4 pm and visit Blacksburg,Va. for two games at Virginia Tech Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bulldogs will wrap up the trip Thursday with a game at West Virginia University .

The Bulldogs got another strong outing from ace Eric Polvani (Wallingford Conn.) and out-hit the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs 9-2, but came up just short to drop to 0-4 on the year.

The Bryant University baseball team heads back out on the road this weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Davidson, North Carolina for three games. There has been a change to the weekend's schedule. Friday's game with Davidson has been moved to Saturday. The Bulldogs will play UNC-Asheville Saturday at 11 am and will face Davidson at 5 pm. Sunday's game with Davidson at 1 pm is still on.

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Bryant University baseball team was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll released this week by the conference office. With four first-place votes, Wagner College was selected to finish atop the NEC standings as the conference prepares for its 24th season of baseball in 2010.

BRYANT TO INDUCT THREE INTO ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce three new additions to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame for 2010. Former volleyball setter Britta Beckman ’04 (Omaha, Neb.), baseball pitcher Mike Florest ’04 (Franklin, Mass.) and women’s soccer forward Allison Kelly ’04 (Trumbull, Conn.) round out this year’s Hall of Fame class, bringing the total number elected into the Hall to 84 members. The three will be officially inducted during the summer of 2011 in conjunction with the Black & Gold Golf Tournament, as the Hall of Fame Dinner will move to a biennial rotation.
