Snow may be in the forecast this week here in New England, but baseball season is finally here. After a month of practicing inside the Chace Athletic Center, the Bryant University baseball team can finally hit the field for real for the first time starting this weekend when the Bulldogs open the 2010 season in Louisiana.
While mid-week forecasts call for temps in the mid 50's and a
slight chance of rain, the Bulldogs won't mind a bit as the team
has been anxious to get the season started since the fall season
ended a few months back.
The Bulldogs, 32-22 a year ago in their first year of Division I competition, will open play Friday night against Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana starting at 7 pm. The team will stay at Nicholls State throughout the weekend and face Houston Baptist Saturday (2 pm) and Tennessee-Martin Sunday (11 am).
This weekend will begin the first of 10 consecutive games on the road to open the season as the Bulldogs will swing through North Carolina to face Davidson and UNC Asheville before wrapping up the trip visiting Virginia Tech, Virginia Military and West Virginia. Last year, Bryant opened the season with a 15-game road trip, going 10-5.
