BASEBALL PLACES FOUR ON BIG BOY CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
THIBODAUX, La. - Despite dropping the three weekend series games, the Bryant University baseball team placed four on the Big Boy Classic All-Tournament team selected by coaches and media.
Leftfielder Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.), catcher Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.), David Soltis (Plainville, Conn.) and starting pitcher Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) were all named to the team following the announcement Sunday evening.
Brown had a big debut for the Bulldogs, hitting .364 with two doubles and one RBI. She also made five putouts defensively and added an outfield assist on the weekend. Vigurs hit.273 and added his 49th career double in going 3-for-4 Sunday against Tennessee-Martin. Soltis, a transfer from Vermont, hit .200 with a home run coming against Nicholls State Saturday while steady Eric Polvani looked sharp in his debut in the opener vs. NSU. Polvani pitched eight strong innings allowing just one earned run on seven hits and didn't walk a batter. He fanned three and allowed just two extra-base hits in the game.
Bryant (0-3) will travel to Davidson Friday for a 6 p.m. game. The team will face UNC-Asheville Saturday and close out the weekend with another matchup with Davidson Sunday at 1 p.m.
