BASEBALL TRAVELS TO BC, LE MOYNE THIS WEEK; HOSTS STONEHILL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team looks to bounce-back this week after being swept in a four-game series over the weekend at Florida Atlantic. The Bulldogs did knock-off Northeastern last Tuesday, pushing their record to 7-1 against New England teams with one of those wins coming against Boston College, 8-5, in Bryant's home opener. Bryant will travel to BC for a game on Tuesday before hosting Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon and then heading up to Le Moyne for a four-game series next weekend.

VIGURS' STREAK COMES TO AN END
Junior catcher Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.) had his streak of 37-straight games reaching base safely stopped in game two of a doubleheader against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, failing to reach base for the first time since the first game of the season against Mercer back on February 28. During his streak, Vigurs hit .389 with eight home runs and 56 RBI, going through a 17-game hitting streak at one point during the stretch. The junior currently ranks third on the team in batting average (.365), second in home runs (8) and first in RBI (58).

ATTACKING THE RECORD BOOKS
Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) and Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.) both joined the 200-hit club earlier this season, becoming the sixth and seventh players in the history of the program to accomplish such a feat. Campbell enters the week with 233 hits, which ranks him fourth all-time and puts him just one behind BJ Gagnon for third on the list.

McKenna is tied for fourth on the charts with Mike Rocco, registering 221 hits after going seven-for-16 over the weekend. The senior shortstop is ranked among some of the best to ever play for the program. McKenna has played in 209 games, starting in each of those which is the most by any player in the history of the program, while ranking second in games played behind Jason Alexander's 210. The Orange, Conn. native also ranks first all-time in triples with 15 and walks with 106, while sitting at fourth in doubles with 44. He also enters the week with a 20-game hitting streak, the best for any Bulldog this season.

THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING
The Bulldogs are hitting .316 as a team on the year with five of the regular starters hitting .300 or better. McKenna, Vigurs, Campbell and Pat O'Connor have all driven in over 30 runs this season, with Vigurs leading the way with his 58. Bryant has hit 35 home runs on the year as a team, led by McKenna's ten while outscoring opponents 280-195 for the season.

TIMELY HITTING
The Bulldogs are hitting an incredible .329 with runners in scoring position and two outs this season, driving in 96 runs while hitting eight home runs. Vigurs leads the way, hitting .529 (18 for 34) with runners on and two down, driving in 29 of his 58 runs. Bryant scored four times with two outs against Northeastern on Tuesday, helping them to an 8-4 victory.

POLVANI DAZZLES
Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) has posted a 3-0 record with one save in his last five appearances on the mound. In that stretch, the junior has posted a 1.32 ERA over 34 innings while striking out 33 batters. In his last outing, Polvani went seven innings against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, giving up one run and striking out seven while leaving the game with a 4-1 lead on his way to the no decision. Overall this season, he has posted a 5-2 record with a 2.28 ERA and a team-best 49 strikeouts in 59.1 innings.

FOUNDAS VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
Senior Chris Foundas (Needham, Mass.) will get the start on the mound for the Bulldogs on Tuesday against Boston College. Foundas is 3-0 with a 3.68 ERA in five starts this season. He recorded the win on the hill against BC earlier this season, going 6.1 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out one. Mike Dennhardt will start for the Eagles,

COBB VS. STONEHILL
Senior Kevin Cobb (Acton, Mass.) will be on the hill Wednesday afternoon against Stonehill. Cobb started one game against the Skyhawks last season, going 6.2 innings while allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five on his way to a no decision. In his career, the senior is 1-0 in two starts against Stonehill, with his one victory coming in a 2007 start.

WE'RE GOING STREAKING!

  • Pat McKenna enters this week with a 20-game hitting streak. He is hitting .400 in that stretch with five home runs and 26 RBI.
  • Pat O'Connor has hit in 13-straight going into Tuesday's game with BC. He is hitting an eye-popping .511 during that streak, hitting two long balls and driving in 12. The senior currently leads the team in batting with a .369 average.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Boston College
The Eagles enter Tuesday's game against Bryant with a 24-15 record, going 10-9 in the ACC. The squad lost two out of three games over the weekend to 13th ranked Virginia, winning 9-6 on Saturday before falling in a close battle on Sunday, 2-0. BC was ranked first in New England and the Northeast last week, one spot ahead of the Bulldogs.

The two teams met earlier this season in Smithfield, with Bryant taking an 8-5 win in their Division I home opener. Foundas got the win on the mound, as Bryant rallied back from a 4-0 first inning deficit to get the win. McKenna was three-for-three with two home runs and three RBI to lead the Bryant offense to the victory.

Stonehill College
Bryant welcomes in old Northeast-10 foe, Stonehill College, on Wednesday afternoon for their lone home game of the week. The Skyhawks are 18-14 on the season, going 10-8 in the conference which is good for sixth place. The team plays at St. Anselm's on Monday and hosts Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday before traveling to Smithfield on Wednesday. Scott Hackett leads the team at the plate with a .322 average, while Matt Giusti has been the Skyhawks' top starter with a 4-1 record and a 2.33 ERA in seven starts.

Le Moyne College
The Dolphins enter the week with a record of 15-17 after sweeping Longwood in a four-game series over the weekend. Le Moyne has now won five-straight and seven of their last eight contest. Brett Botsford leads the Dolphins in hitting, registering a .352 average while Chris Edmondson leads with team with 26 RBI. On the mound, Jeff Tardif has been the most consistent starter, recording a 3.43 ERA while posting a record of 4-2.
