POLVANI PITCHES BRYANT TO 9-1 WIN OVER LE MOYNE
IN GAME ONE SUNDAY; FALL, 4-1, IN GAME TWO

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -  Junior Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) threw eight shutout innings to win his sixth game of the season as the Bulldogs took down Le Moyne, 9-1, in game one of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Bryant lost game two, 4-1, as the Dolphins took three-out-of-four in the series. Polvani improved to 4-0 in his last six appearances, making five starts and boasting a 1.07 ERA.

Game 1
Polvani allowed just three hits over his eight innings while striking out two, not allowing a single Dolphin to advance past first base on his way to the win. The junior helped Bryant snap a seven-game losing streak, with his offense putting up nine runs on 12 hits.

Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.) and Tim Norton (Barnstable, Mass.) paced the offense, driving in three runs apiece in the contest. Norton helped get the scoring started in the second, driving in one of Bryant's two runs in the frame with a run scoring ground out to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.

Norton singled in another run in the fourth, and Vigurs blasted a two run home run in the fifth, his ninth long ball of the season to put the Bulldogs up 5-0. Vigurs now has a team-best 61 RBI on the season, which ranks him fifth in all of Division I.

The Bulldogs tacked on one run in the seventh, and put together a three-run rally in the eighth to extend the lead to 9-0. Norton drove in his third run of the game with a double, while Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.) also brought in a run with a single to right. Stone had three hits in the game, his third three-hit performance of the season while extending his hitting streak to four-straight games.

Le Moyne scored one run in the ninth, but that would be all they could muster as Bryant took the game, 9-1.

Game 2
The Bulldogs were hurt by four errors in the second game that led to four unearned runs for the Dolphins as they went on to the 4-1 win in game two. Bryant starter John Michael Ryan (Worcester, Mass.) went all six innings, allowing four runs (none earned) on four hits. Three of the runs crossed the plate in the first, as Ryan only allowed four runners to advance into scoring position after the first frame.

Ryan retired the first two Dolphins in the first before a walk, a hit and an error loaded the bases. Matt Nandin hit a two-out double that scored three runs to give Le Moyne a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs (27-18) could not muster anything against Dolphin starter Brandon Otto, who threw six scoreless innings to get the win. Bryant's lone run came in the top of the seventh when Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) drew a bases loaded walk to get the RBI.

Dan Mello (Peabody, Mass.) had a big day at the plate, going three-for-three in game two to have his first career three-hit game. The freshman also had a hit in game one to drive in a run. Vigurs also had a hit in the contest, to give him a six-game hitting streak. The junior catcher has reached base in 43 of Bryant's 45 games this year.

Bryant will host UConn on Tuesday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex (3:30 p.m.).
