Football Falls to C.W. Post 24-0 Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. ? Russell Jessamy rushed for 107 yards and scored twice to lead first-place C.W. Post University to a 24-0 win over Bryant University here Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers remain undefeated in Northeast-10 Conference play at 4-0 (4-1 overall). Bryant, held to just 80 total yards in the game, saw its two-game win streak come to an end as the Bulldogs drop to 2-3 on the season (2-3 NE-10).
The Bryant defense played well in the early going, holding the Pioneers to just a field goal in the first quarter. C.W. Post entered the game averaging 36 points a game but fumbled the ball away on its own 25 yard line on its first possession. Bryant, however was unable to take advantage of the turnover as Charles Granatell was intercepted in the end zone by Dwaye Baldwin.
Leading 3-0 following a Matt Cisek 26-yard field goal, C.W. Post would make it 10-0 later in the second quarter as the Pioneers took advantage of a Granatell fumble on the Bryant 19 yard line and two plays later watched as Jessamy scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns from five yards out.
The score would stay that way at the half, as C.W. Post?s defense held the Bulldogs to just two first downs in the first half and would hold Bryant to just three in the game.
In the second half, the Pioneers would pull away as Jessamy scored his second TD of the game from 16 yards out to make it 17-0 following the Cisek extra point and in the fourth, Adebayo Adedapo scored from a yard out to round out the scoring to make it 24-0.
Chris Peaks, after two straight games with over 100 yards rushing, was held to just 29 yards on the ground as the Bulldogs had just 48 yards rushing in the game. Granatell completed 4 of 10 passes for 32 yards and was picked off twice.
Bryant turned the ball over five times in the game and sacked five times. Defensively for the Bulldogs, Tomi Okunfolomi of Providence (La Salle) had eight tackles including a sack and interception returned for 30 yards in the third. David Boak also chipped in with eight tackles while Delano Dryden had six. Joe Kay led C.W. Post with 11 tackles including a sack and fumble recovery.
Bryant will travel to Stonehill College next Saturday, October 9 for a 1:30 kickoff. C.W. Post will return to action a week from today, hosting Bentley at 1 p.m. at Hickox Field.
