Football Falls to Bentley 42-0 Friday Night
October 29, 2004
WALTHAM, MA- Bentley quarterback Marc Eddy completed 29 of 46 passes for 384 yards to lead the host Falcons to a 42-0 shutout win over Bryant here Friday night. Bryant (4-4) will return home next Saturday to host Southern Connecticut at 12 noon.
It didn?t take Bentley long to get on track offensively. After punting on their first possession, the Falcon defense forced the Bulldogs to punt deep in their own territory, giving the ball back in the hands of one of the most potent offenses in the country on the Bryant 43. Going with a no-huddle offense, Eddy engineered a quick-strike drive ending with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Mall to put the Falcons up 6-0.
The touchdown pass was Eddy?s 116th of his career, tying the NCAA record for career touchdown passes. For Eddy, it wouldn?t take long for the senior signal caller to etch his name into the record book. After the Bulldogs went three and out once, Eddy hit Kristopher Lake down the right sideline for a 44-yard touchdown strike, putting Bentley up 14-0 with the two-point conversion.
Bryant (4-4, 4-4 NE-10) trailed 28-0 at the half and managed only 100 yards of total offense in the half and completed five passes. Bentley, had 416 yards of offense with only mistakes coming on a pair of passes that were intercepted by the Bulldog defense.
The start of the second half was much like the first as the Bulldogs failed to pick up a first down on the opening drive and were forced to punt. Starting from their own 41 yard line, the Falcons went 59 yards on seven plays as J.J. Sullivan found a hole up the middle and reached the end zone untouched for a four yard touchdown to make it 35-0 following the made extra point.
Bentley (8-1, 8-1 NE-10) would complete the scoring in the fourth. With Bryant in punt formation, the snap to Mike Lajterman was low and the Falcon?s took over on the Bryant 21. From there, Mall hit Jehan Murphy on the first play from scrimmage with a 17-yard touchdown strike to complete the scoring.
Bryant will return home next Saturday (Nov. 6) to host Southern Connecticut at Bulldog Stadium (12 p.m.).
