Box Score
SMITHFIELD, RI – Bryant junior running back Lorenzo
Perry (Providence,
R.I.) rushed for a game-high 198
yards and three scores as the Bryant football team knocked off
Bentley, 27-14 before 2,571 at Bulldog Stadium Saturday. With
the win, the Bulldogs improve to 7-2 on the season (6-2 in the
NE-10) while Bentley drops to 7-3, (7-2 NE-10).
Bryant led 14-7 at the half, but the Falcons would come back to
tie the game 14-14 in the third as freshman quarterback
John White (Kingston, Mass.)
connected with Kevin Doherty (Kingston, Mass.) in
the back of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 7:08 left
in the third.
Starting on their own 37 yard line, the Bulldogs go ahead for good
with a five-play, 63 yard drive capped off by a three yard run by
Perry up the middle. The key play of the drive came on
49-yard pass play from Charles Granatell
(Franklin Lakes,
NJ) to Sean Bergin (New
Windsor,
NY) down to the Bentley three
yard line, setting up the score by Perry.
On Bentley’s first drive of the fourth quarter, the Falcons
moved the ball effectively down the field as White’s
quarterback keeper up the middle move the ball down to the Bryant
13 yard line for a Falcon first down. On the very next play,
White handed off to tailback J.J. Sullivan
(Tyngsboro,
Mass.) who fumbled near the 10
yard line and the ball was recovered by Bryant linebacker
Greg Daniel
(Providence,
RI).
Bryant’s defense would come up big late in the fourth
quarter, stopping Bentley on a fake punt attempt on fourth down,
giving the Bulldogs the ball on the Bentley 14 yard line.
Four plays later, Perry would scamper in from three yards out to
close out the scoring, 27-14.
Perry’s 198 yards on the day gives him 1,166 yards rushing
this season – the second-most in school history.
Granatell completed 17 of 29 passes for 175 yards and was
intercepted four times on the day by the Bentley defense.
White completed 22 of 41 passes for 172 yards while Sullivan
finished with 111 yards on 21 carries for the Falcons. The
win by Bryant snaps a five game losing skid to Bentley, marking the
first win over the Falcons since 1999. Bentley leads the overall
series 5-2.
The Bulldogs travel to Southern Connecticut next Saturday (1
pm).
