Offense Defeats Defense at Annual Black & Gold Game Saturday
SMITHFIELD, RI The Bryant University football team concluded its 2007 spring practice with the annual Black & Gold game Saturday afternoon. The game, featuring the offense vs. defense saw the Bulldog offense come out on top, 42-24 before more than 300 sun-drenched fans at the Turf Field Complex.

Head Coach Marty Fine Announces 2007 Bryant Football Clinic
Bryant Bulldogs head coach Marty Fine has announced the dates of his 2007 Football Clinic. The camp is for players ages 7 to 18. The objective is to improve skill development of each camper with a program geared toward teaching football fundamentals. The Bryant Football Camp will be held on July 5 and 6. In his third year, Marty Fine led the Bulldogs to their best season ever in 2006. The Bulldogs won the Northeast-10 Conference and hosted an NCAA tournament game for the first time ever.

Bryant's Perry and Fine Named Male Athlete of the Year and Male Coach of the Year By Words Unlimited
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University football standout Lorenzo Perry and football coach Marty Fine have been named Male Athlete of the Year and Male Coach of the Year by Words Unlimited, Rhode Island's Media Organization of Sportswriters and Publicists. They will be honored along with the other award recipients at the Warwick Radisson on Sunday, February 18, 2007.

SMITHFIELD,RI - Bryant University head football coach Marty Fine is pleased to announce the signing of 30 student-athletes to national letters of intent to enroll and play football at the university this fall. The announcement was made today by coach Fine. The Bulldogs are coming off its most successful season in school history in 2006. BRYANT FOOTBALL STANDOUT NAMED ALL-AMERICAN
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University football senior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has been named a Third Team Associated Press All-American announced this week. Perry helped guide the Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA Playoff appearance in November with a school-record 1,924 yards rushing this past season and was ranked No. 2 nationally with a 174.9 yards per game rushing average.

Perry Concludes Run To Harlon Hill As Member of Eight Best Nationwide
SMITHFIELD, RI - The final three candidates for the 2006 Harlon Hill Award as the nation's best Division II football player has been annuonced and Bryant's Lorenzo Perry did not make the final three. Regardless, Perry capped his remarkable Bryant career by being voted to the final eight for the Harlon Hill Award, the best finish ever for a Bryant football player. Grand Valley State's Cullen Finnerty, Pittsburg State's Germaine Race and Chadron State's Danny Woodhead are the final three.

Football's Kix and Perry Named All-Region
SMITHFIELD, RI Bryant University running back LORENZO PERRY (Providence, RI) and wide receiver JUSTIN KIX (Shoreham, N.Y.) have been named to the 2006 Daktronics Division II Football All-Northeast Region team. The announcement was made today following a vote by the region's sports information directors. Perry and Kix helped lead the Bryant football team to its best season in history. The Bulldogs set a school record with eight wins on the season at 8-3 and captured a share of its first Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

Bryant Football Comes Up Short in NCAA Playoff Game, 31-29 Saturday
SMITHFIELD, RI - Charlie Granatell completed 17 of 30 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns but it was not enough as the Bulldogs came up just short in their first NCAA playoff appearance, falling to visiting West Chester, 31-29 before 5,234 at Bulldog Stadium. Bryant ends its record-breaking season 8-3 and co-Champions of the Northeast-10 Conference.

SMITHFIELD,RI - The Bryant University football team will make history this Saturday when the Bulldogs host their first NCAA playoff game in the program's young eight-year history. Bryant (8-2) will host West Chester (8-3) for a noon kickoff. The game will be carried live online at www.bryantbulldogs.com with John McCarthy and Patrick Sullivan calling the live action. Tickets are $7 for adults / $3 for non-Bryant students. BRYANT STUDENTS WILL BE ADMITTED FREE OF CHARGE. The Bulldogs are led by Harlon Hill candidate Lorenzo Perry who is third in the nation in rushing with an average of 179 yards rushing per game while quarterback Charlie Granatell is second nationally in passing efficiency.

BY MIKE SZOSTAK Journal Sports Writer SMITHFIELD -- As Rhode Island high-school stars, they played to cheers at Portsmouth, West Warwick and La Salle. Now college seniors, they're still playing to cheers, this time as members of the best football team in Bryant University history. And Saturday at noon, Justin Benevides, Chris Reels and Lorenzo Perry and their teammates will go where no Bryant players have gone before: the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bulldogs (8-2) will kick off against West Chester University (8-3) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in the first round of the national tournament. This will be the first time in 21 years that a Rhode Island football team has played in an NCAA tournament. URI won the Yankee Conference in 1985 and participated in the I-AA playoffs.

Bryant's Lorenzo Perry Named A Finalist For Harlon Hill Award
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University senior running back Lorenzo Perry has been named one of 24 candidates in the running for the 2006 Harlon Hill Trophy as the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year. Perry, the MVP of the Northeast-10 Conference, is currently second in the nation in rushing with 179.2 yards per game and led the Northeast-10 in rushing, total offense, all-purpose, and scoring this season. The winner of the 2006 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Trophy Award Committee, will be announced on Friday, December 15.

SMITHFIELD, RI -- Lorenzo Perry rushed for 94 yards on four carries and scored two touchdows as the Bryant University football team rolled to a 42-0 nonconference win over visiting Becker College here Saturday at Bulldog Stadium. The improves the Bulldogs' record to 8-2 on the season, setting a new school record for number of wins in a season. ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN: Bulldogs Number 3 In Region; Team Hosts Becker Saturday at Noon
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University football team, co-champions of the Northeast-10 Conference, will host Division III Becker College Saturday afternoon for senior day at Bulldog Stadium (12 pm). Prior to the start of the game, Bryant will honor its senior class of 2006. A win Saturday would set a new school record for wins in a season, passing last years mark of seven. The NCAA will announce the Division II Football Playoff bracket Sunday at 5 p.m. Bryant moved up three spots to No. 3 in the region following last weeks 35-16 win over Bentley College. The ranking is the highest in the programs history, having achieved a No. 4 ranking earlier this year. Bryant is in line to possibly host a first round playoff game on Nov. 18 (No. 3 and No. 4 host a first round - No. 1 and No. 2 receive a bye). The playoff bracket will be announced Sunday at 5 pm on www.ncaasports.com.

Bryant's rise to prominence in the Northeast-10 Conference is one of the best stories in New England football. The Bulldogs (7-2) buried archrival Bentley, 35-16, last Saturday and clinched a share of the Northeast-10 championship. They will share the honor with Merrimack, Southern Connecticut and C.W. Post. Think about that for a moment. A program that didn't exist until 1999 and had one winning season in its first six wins a share of the championship. Amazing!

CO-CHAMPIONS - Bryant Football Rolls Past Bentley 36-15 To Claim Tie For Conference Title
WALTHAM, Mass. - WALTHAM, Mass. Bryant quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) completed 15 of 21 passes for 278 yards in leading the Bulldogs to a 36-15 win over Bentley College Saturday afternoon at Bentley Football Field. The win improves Bryant to 7-2 on the season, tying last years school record for wins in a season, while Bentley drops to a 5-5 overall. At 7-2 in the conference, the win, coupled with Merrimacks 13-10 win over C.W. Post, gives the Bulldogs a share of the conference championship. CW Post, Merrimack, Southern Connecticut and Bryant end the conference schedule 7-2. There is no tiebreaker procedure in the NE-10.

Football Travels to Bentley Saturday For Big Matchup With Falcons; Bulldogs Drop Spot in Regional Ranking To No. 6
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University football team will return to action this Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs travel up I-95 to face the Falcons of Bentley College at the Bentley Football Field. The Bulldogs (6-2) were idle last week and enter the weekend ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Northeast Region after the lastest poll was released on Monday. Six teams will qualify for the NCAA playoffs as the Bulldogs will have just one more regular season game - next Saturday vs. Becker at home, before the NCAA playoff pairings are announced on Nov. 12.

Three members of the Bryant football team were named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic first team this week. Junior Sean Bergin (New Windsor, NY /Newberg Free Academy), sophomore Brian Donnelly (East Dennis, MA/Yarmouth), and junior Marcus Lindsey (Bridgeport, CT/ Central) took home the honors. The Bryant football team will be idle this week before returning to action Nov. 4 at Bentley College.

Football Drops A Spot in Regional Poll; Gunther Ties Sack Record and Nears Career Record
SMITHFIELD,RI - The Bryant football team dropped a spot in this week's regional poll, falling from four to No. 5 in the Northeast Regional Poll. Southern Connecticut, thanks to its win over C.W. Post last Friday, moved up to No. 3 while CW Post drops to No. 4. In other Bryant news, junior defensive end Mark Gunther (left) has tied the school single season sack record with nine. Gunther had three in Saturday's 41-0 win over Saint Anselm and needs two to break the school career sack record.

Football defeats Stonehill behind 247 rushing yards by Lorenzo Perry
EASTON, Mass. - Senior running back Lorenzo Perry gained 247 yards on 31 carries plus added three rushing touchdowns as the Bulldogs defeat Stonehill 35-14. Perry's 247 yards is the third best single-game rushing performance in school history. The Bulldogs are now 5-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference and will host Saint Anselm next Saturday for Parents and Family Weekend at Bulldog Stadium.

Football Returns To Action Saturday at Stonehill; Kickoff is at 12 pm
The Bryant University football team will look to rebound from last Saturdays 24-21 loss to No. 22 C.W. Post when the Bulldogs travel to Stonehill College for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown this Saturday. Kickoff from W.B. Mason Stadium is 12 pm. This will be the eighth meeting all-time between Bryant and Stonehill on the gridiron with the Bulldogs leading the series 6-1. Bryant has won the last five meetings between the two schools including last years 24-12 win in Smithfield, R.I. Stonehill (1-5, 1-4 NE-10) earned its first win of the season last Saturday , 24-9 at Saint Anselm. Cliff Mason II leads Stonehill with 205 yards rushing this season while backup quarterback Jon Kaloyanides has passed for 628. Bryant enters the game first in the conference in scoring with 31.2 ppg and second in the conference with an average of 195.2 yards rushing per game. Tailback Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has 1,032 yards rushing this season and leads the conference with 11 rushing touchdowns. Perry had 313 yards rushing last year against Stonehill.

SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University football team hosts first-place C.W. Post this afternoon in a battle for a share of first place in the Northeast-10 Conference on the line. The Pioneers are undefeated in conference play at 4-0 this season while Bryant brings a 4-1 conference mark into todays game. Bryant is 0-5 all-time vs. C.W. Post, but the Bulldogs bring an eight-game win streak at Bulldog Stadium. The game will be broadcast live online by College Sports Television at CSTV.com. #22 C.W. Post Survives Late Bryant Rally As Pioneers Hold Off Bulldogs 24-21
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant's Lorenzo Perry rushed for 153 yards on 29 carries but it was enough as C.W. Post rallied with a late drive to defeat the Bulldogs 24-21 before 3,722 fans at Bulldog Stadium Saturday afternoon. Bryant led 24-17 with just over two minutes to play after Charles Granatell hooked up with Alex Chapparo for a 29-yard score. The Bulldogs travel to Easton, Mass. next weekend to face Stonehill College.

Two years before that, one of his close friends also had been shot and killed. Lorenzo Perry is a great football player at Bryant. That's only part of the story. The real story is all the running it took to escape the minefield that was his childhood, the streets of his Providence neighborhood where too many dreams lie bruised and broken. Bryant Football Travels To Pace Saturday For Battle of 3-1 Teams; Game To Be Broadcast On NE10.tv Only
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant football team will hit the road this Saturday afternoon with a Northeast-10 Conference game at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. This will be the second road contest of the season for the Bulldogs who are 3-0 at home and 0-1 away from Bulldog Stadium. The one loss was a 20-7 decision at American International back in week 2. Bryant (3-1, 3-1 NE-10) is coming off a 45-21 win over Assumption College last Saturday while Pace (3-1, 2-1 NE-10) edged Saint Anselm 7-2 in Manchester, NH. This will be the seventh meeting all-time between Bryant and Pace with the Bulldogs leading the overall series 5-1. The Bulldogs won last years meeting 20-19 on Homecoming last year in Smithfield, RI. A win Saturday would equal the best start to a season since the 1999 team (Bryants first year as a varsity sport) went 4-1 to open the year. Last season, Bryant was 3-1 before falling to CW Post on the road. NOTE ... Saturday's game will be broadcast on www.NE10.tv only for this weekend.

BOSTON - Bryant University football running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) was named the Boston Globe Gold Helmet award winner for his outstanding play in leading the Bulldogs to a 49-20 win over Southern Connecticut last Saturday. Perry received the award Wednesday afternoon at Harvard's Dillon Field House as part of the New England Football Writers' Luncheon that takes place each week throughout the college football season. The Gold Helmet is presented to Division I-AA, Division II and Division III players for their outstanding contributions to his team on a given week. He becomes the first Bryant football player in school history to receive the Gold Helmet Award.

SMITHFIELD,RI - Bryant senior Lorenzo Perry (Providence, R.I.) and junior safety Chris Wohlheter (Newark, Ohio) were named Northeast-10 Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively. Perry rushed for 190 yards and a school-record four touchdowns in Saturday's 49-20 win over Southern Connecticut while Wohlheter had 8 tackles and 75-yard interception return for a touchdown. SMITHFIELD,RI - Bryant University senior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has been named a preseason Division II All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Perry set the Bryant school rushing record last year with 1,335 yards in leading the Bulldogs to a 7-3 overall record. Head Coach Marty Fine Announces 2007 Bryant Football Clinic
Bryant Bulldogs head coach Marty Fine has announced the dates of his 2007 Football Clinic. The camp is for players ages 7 to 18. The objective is to improve skill development of each camper with a program geared toward teaching football fundamentals. The Bryant Football Camp will be held on July 5 and 6. In his third year, Marty Fine led the Bulldogs to their best season ever in 2006. The Bulldogs won the Northeast-10 Conference and hosted an NCAA tournament game for the first time ever.

BY MIKE SZOSTAK Journal Sports Writer SMITHFIELD -- As Rhode Island high-school stars, they played to cheers at Portsmouth, West Warwick and La Salle. Now college seniors, they're still playing to cheers, this time as members of the best football team in Bryant University history. And Saturday at noon, Justin Benevides, Chris Reels and Lorenzo Perry and their teammates will go where no Bryant players have gone before: the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bulldogs (8-2) will kick off against West Chester University (8-3) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in the first round of the national tournament. This will be the first time in 21 years that a Rhode Island football team has played in an NCAA tournament. URI won the Yankee Conference in 1985 and participated in the I-AA playoffs.

Bryant's Lorenzo Perry Named A Finalist For Harlon Hill Award
SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant University senior running back Lorenzo Perry has been named one of 24 candidates in the running for the 2006 Harlon Hill Trophy as the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year. Perry, the MVP of the Northeast-10 Conference, is currently second in the nation in rushing with 179.2 yards per game and led the Northeast-10 in rushing, total offense, all-purpose, and scoring this season. The winner of the 2006 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Trophy Award Committee, will be announced on Friday, December 15.

ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN: Bulldogs Number 3 In Region; Team Hosts Becker Saturday at Noon
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University football team, co-champions of the Northeast-10 Conference, will host Division III Becker College Saturday afternoon for senior day at Bulldog Stadium (12 pm). Prior to the start of the game, Bryant will honor its senior class of 2006. A win Saturday would set a new school record for wins in a season, passing last years mark of seven. The NCAA will announce the Division II Football Playoff bracket Sunday at 5 p.m. Bryant moved up three spots to No. 3 in the region following last weeks 35-16 win over Bentley College. The ranking is the highest in the programs history, having achieved a No. 4 ranking earlier this year. Bryant is in line to possibly host a first round playoff game on Nov. 18 (No. 3 and No. 4 host a first round - No. 1 and No. 2 receive a bye). Bryant's rise to prominence in the Northeast-10 Conference is one of the best stories in New England football. The Bulldogs (7-2) buried archrival Bentley, 35-16, last Saturday and clinched a share of the Northeast-10 championship. They will share the honor with Merrimack, Southern Connecticut and C.W. Post. Think about that for a moment. A program that didn't exist until 1999 and had one winning season in its first six wins a share of the championship. Amazing!

CO-CHAMPIONS - Bryant Football Rolls Past Bentley 36-15 To Claim Tie For Conference Title
WALTHAM, Mass. - WALTHAM, Mass. Bryant quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) completed 15 of 21 passes for 278 yards in leading the Bulldogs to a 36-15 win over Bentley College Saturday afternoon at Bentley Football Field. The win improves Bryant to 7-2 on the season, tying last years school record for wins in a season, while Bentley drops to a 5-5 overall. At 7-2 in the conference, the win, coupled with Merrimacks 13-10 win over C.W. Post, gives the Bulldogs a share of the conference championship. CW Post, Merrimack, Southern Connecticut and Bryant end the conference schedule 7-2. There is no tiebreaker procedure in the NE-10.

Football Travels to Bentley Saturday For Big Matchup With Falcons; Bulldogs Drop Spot in Regional Ranking To No. 6
SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University football team will return to action this Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs travel up I-95 to face the Falcons of Bentley College at the Bentley Football Field. The Bulldogs (6-2) were idle last week and enter the weekend ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Northeast Region after the lastest poll was released on Monday. Six teams will qualify for the NCAA playoffs as the Bulldogs will have just one more regular season game - next Saturday vs. Becker at home, before the NCAA playoff pairings are announced on Nov. 12.

SMITHFIELD,RI - The Bryant football team dropped a spot in this week's regional poll, falling from four to No. 5 in the Northeast Regional Poll. Southern Connecticut, thanks to its win over C.W. Post last Friday, moved up to No. 3 while CW Post drops to No. 4. In other Bryant news, junior defensive end Mark Gunther (left) has tied the school single season sack record with nine. Football defeats Stonehill behind 247 rushing yards by Lorenzo Perry
EASTON, Mass. - Senior running back Lorenzo Perry gained 247 yards on 31 carries plus added three rushing touchdowns as the Bulldogs defeat Stonehill 35-14. Perry's 247 yards is the third best single-game rushing performance in school history. The Bryant University football team will look to rebound from last Saturdays 24-21 loss to No. 22 C.W. Post when the Bulldogs travel to Stonehill College for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown this Saturday. Kickoff from W.B. Mason Stadium is 12 pm. This will be the eighth meeting all-time between Bryant and Stonehill on the gridiron with the Bulldogs leading the series 6-1. Bryant has won the last five meetings between the two schools including last years 24-12 win in Smithfield, R.I. Stonehill (1-5, 1-4 NE-10) earned its first win of the season last Saturday , 24-9 at Saint Anselm. Cliff Mason II leads Stonehill with 205 yards rushing this season while backup quarterback Jon Kaloyanides has passed for 628. Bryant enters the game first in the conference in scoring with 31.2 ppg and second in the conference with an average of 195.2 yards rushing per game. Tailback Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has 1,032 yards rushing this season and leads the conference with 11 rushing touchdowns. Perry had 313 yards rushing last year against Stonehill.

SMITHFIELD, RI - Bryant's Lorenzo Perry rushed for 153 yards on 29 carries but it was enough as C.W. Post rallied with a late drive to defeat the Bulldogs 24-21 before 3,722 fans at Bulldog Stadium Saturday afternoon. Bryant's Granatell Named Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of Week
EASTON, Mass. - Bryant University junior quarterback Charlie Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ / Ramapo) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week. Granatell completed 17 of 27 passes for 267 yards and tied a school record with four touchdown passes in Bryant's 45-21 win over Assumption College (Mass.) last Saturday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Lorenzo Perry had 132 yards rushing on set a school record with his 21st career rushing touchdown but it was not enough as the AIC Yellow Jackets handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 20-7 Saturday at John Homer Miller Field. Lorenzo Perry Receives Gold Helmet Award Wednesday By New England Football Writers For His Performance In Last Week's Win
BOSTON - Bryant University football running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) was named the Boston Globe Gold Helmet award winner for his outstanding play in leading the Bulldogs to a 49-20 win over Southern Connecticut last Saturday. Perry received the award Wednesday afternoon at Harvard's Dillon Field House as part of the New England Football Writers' Luncheon that takes place each week throughout the college football season. The Gold Helmet is presented to Division I-AA, Division II and Division III players for their outstanding contributions to his team on a given week. He becomes the first Bryant football player in school history to receive the Gold Helmet Award.

Football Officially Opens Preseason Camp Under Sunny Skies Wednesday
SMITHFIELD, RI - A warm mid-August sun welcomed 108 Bryant University football players to camp this afternoon as the Bulldogs officially kicked off the 2006 preseason camp with their first practice. After checking in Tuesday afternoon and going through conditioning Wednesday morning, the team donned the gold helmets for the first time as they prepare for the Sept. 2 season opener against Southern Connecticut at Bulldog Stadium.

SMITHFIELD,RI - Bryant University senior running back Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) has been named a preseason Division II All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Perry set the Bryant school rushing record last year with 1,335 yards in leading the Bulldogs to a 7-3 overall record. Perry and the Bulldogs have reported to camp Tuesday and will begin preseason preparation for the 2006 opener September 2 against Southern Connecticut.

2006 Football Preview: Bulldog Football Looking To Build on Record Breaking Season
SMITHFIELD,RI - With the sweltering days to August here, it can only mean one thing: football preseason. The Bryant University football team will report back to camp on Aug. 15 to begin preparation for the 2006 season. The Bulldogs will return 18 starters from last year's team that went 7-3 overall and earned a top-10 regional ranking. The 2006 season opener is set for Saturday, September 2 against Southern Connecticut at Bulldog Stadium (3 p.m.).

Football Preseason Poll
FOXBORO, Mass. - The Bryant University football team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2006 preseason poll by the conference coaches. The announcement was made during the annual media day held Tuesday evening at Gillette Stadium. Bryant, 7-3 a year ago, will report to camp August 15 in preparation for the Sept. 2 season opener with Southern Connecticut at Bulldog Stadium (3 pm).
